Listers, it’s no secret how excited we are about the upcoming Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. I mean, how could we not be?! A whole festival where we can eat and eat and eat, and then drink and drink and drink (and then eat some more) at the best restaurants in Melbourne?! Now THAT’S our idea of heaven.
It can be a little overwhelming, though, choosing which Melbourne Food & Wine Festival event to attend—not to mention finding something that’s truly unique and hasn’t been done before! (We know, we know, #firstworldproblems!) The good news is, some of Melbourne’s best restaurants are taking things up a notch in 2015, with a slew of outside-of-the-norm foodie events set to get tummies rumbling.
Port Melbourne restaurant and bar, Mr Lawrence, is one such venue doing things a little differently for Melbourne Food & Wine Festival this year. Rather than hosting a fancy pants dinner or boozy drinking session (not that there’s anything wrong with that!), the Middle Eastern inspired restaurant is going all out to create a one-of-a-kind Melbourne Food & Wine Festival event—Mr Lawrence & the Bedouin Camp.
Inspired by the nomadic Bedouins, who roamed the Arabian and Syrian deserts in years gone by, Mr Lawrence & the Bedouin Camp will see a Bedouin style village, complete with tents and mouth-watering Middle Eastern feast, set up on Port Melbourne beach on Saturday 28th February.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic rug to the event, where you can lie back, relax and quite literally feast on dishes such as whole spice rubbed lamb cooked over the charcoal grill, spit-roasted goat, Middle Eastern salads, roast veggies, pulses and flatbreads. The all-day MFWF event is also licensed, with craft beer from Thunder Road Brewing Company and boutique wine from Out of Step Wines available to wash down all the sweet, sweet food.
The best part? Mr Lawrence & the Bedouin Camp is an all-ages event, meaning you can bring along the littlies and make it a foodie style family day out on the beach (don’t worry, there’ll be soft stuff for them to drink).
This Melbourne Food & Wine Festival, put the fancy pants dinners and boozy drinks sessions on the backburner and book your ticket to Mr Lawrence & the Bedouin Camp instead. With its mouth-watering Middle Eastern menu, boutique drinks list and relaxed, family friendly setting on the beach, it really is the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival event that you can’t miss!
