The Only Regional Festival You Need This Winter

Everyone knows the best thing in life is a full glass of red. To warm you up this winter, the best boutique and established producers in King Valley will be gathering for a Weekend Fit For A King. Celebrating the region’s signature Italian-style wines alongside stunning rolling vineyards and the freshest seasonal dishes, this is the perfect excuse for a romantic (bae or bestie is a must) weekend away.

Aim to take out the crown with Brown Brothers, who have the biggest cellar door in the region, which will be open from Saturday 10 June through Monday 13 June. Over 50 wines will be available to sip and sample, along with a pop up Prosecco COCKTAIL BAR—hello! You’d better clear your diary and make room for this bubbly good time. The pop up bar will also serve gluhwein (that’s mulled wine for those of you playing at home), to keep you toasty on the inside and out.

Expect finger-licking food options, live music (from Saturday through to Monday) and crackling fires (both indoors and outside) to keep you warm through the day, so you can leave that puffer jacket at home. Outdoor beanbags and blooming gardens are just some of the spots to cosy up in so you will feel like the king of the castle (no dirty rascals in sight).

If you’re turning your trip into the ultimate weekend away (which you should, because, what are long weekends for?), you won’t have to stray very far. The candle-lit King’s Feast Festival Dinner features a five-course dinner, complete with matching Brown Brothers’ wines. Set in a majestic barn on Saturday 10 June, local produce will be the queen of the evening menu.

The dinner will showcase Australian White Lamb (everyone's favourite, obviously), which has been locally bred and grown in Beechworth. Grass and grain fed, you can rest assured this premium, tender cut of delicious red meat has come from a small, environmentally-conscious producer.

The next morning, you can forget about your conventional smashed avocado and head to Patricia’s Table Festival Lunch. Amble in for a relaxed three-course menu with matched wines (can every weekend be like this?). Expect sparkling upon arrival, with delicate dishes including fried quail breast & terrine with apple kimchi, yuzu mayonnaise and peanuts, or twice baked gruyere soufflé with cauliflower, assorted mushrooms and sherry caramel.

If you’re staying overnight at Milawa, we recommend the Lindenwarrah as part of your weekend away. A tranquil, country-style villa with an on-site restaurant and luxury room service, it’s also a happy skip to two away from Brown Brothers. You’ll thank us in the morning.

You can also squeeze in a trip to the Milawa Cheese Company (don’t leave without the King River Gold Washed Rind…seriously), the dedicated mustard shop and the local favourite Snow Road Produce cafe.

Did someone say, best Queen’s Birthday ever?
