Most Melburnians have visited The Werribee Mansion at least once in their lifetime, maybe as a little one when your folks took you to the zoo nearby, possibly for a wedding, or perhaps more recently when you visited a different type of zoo known as Let Them Eat Cake. Now, comes a different type of experience at the grand mansion, an ornate cafe located at the west wing of the building.
It’s called The Refectory Parlour, and it comes from the team behind Bursaria, the events specialists who often throw some very fancy weddings at Werribee Mansion. With tying the knot largely on hold, opening a cafe for everyone to experience the stunning grounds and architecture seemed like the right thing to do.
On offer is indoor and outdoor dining, a substantial freshly-baked cake counter, along with plenty of booze to suit the mood—cocktails, gin and tonic varietals and adults-only icy poles for the warmer days.
Should the seat be full-up, you can also grab yourself some takeaway and rent a picnic blanket, umbrella and cushions—you’ve basically got the entire grounds of the mansion to park up in.
If you’d rather notch the experience up a level, preorder one of the luxe picnic hampers packed with Victorian produce, plenty of grazing snacks and booze should that be the road you’d prefer to take.
The Refectory Parlour opens Saturday 5 December, and will operate Wednesdays through Sundays between 9am and 5pm.
