The Top 5 Summer Flicks We Want To See At The QV Outdoor Cinema

By Sophie Teague
10th Dec 2015

As the days grow warmer  and Melburnians finally get used to some actual warm weather, QV Melbourne has answered a loud call for another amazing outdoor cinema. One that allows us to eat Mövenpick, bring along our pooches and, of course, let our pooches eat Mövenpick.

QV Melbourne has answered our summer cinephile prayers  and is running a pop-up cinema every Thursday to Sunday evening in QV Square, from 3 December til 28 February 2016. Tickets are a paltry $12 – but if you purchase a food package they fall to a perfectly affordable $10!

We think there is nothing better than falling back into a deckchair under the stars, indulging in delicious treats, and watching a classic flick. So we have put together a list of the top 5 movies that we NEED to see this summer at the QV Outdoor Cinema.

Best In Show

Saturday 12 December | 8.30pm

This is a night for canine lovers all over Melbourne: On this special evening, QV have asked that you BYO furry companion to watch a dog-friendly screening of the mockumentary, Best In Show. The audience is encouraged to arrive at 7.30pm with their pup dressed up in their best festive ensemble, with an award given to The Best Dressed Dog of the night. The screening starts at approximately 8.30pm, when your dog is invited to join you while you enjoy the hilarious story of several eccentric owners involved in a prestigious dog show. All ticket sales proceeds from the night will go to the Lost Dogs’ home. Bonus!

Saturday 19 December | 8.30pm

It wouldn’t be December without the addition of our favourite Christmas film, Elf. A brilliant mix of Will Ferrell genius and heartbreaking Christmas dilemmas, Elf is one for all ages. As we get closer to the big C, this is the perfect pre-Christmas treat for your lucky friends and family - maybe even bring your very own Christmas Grinch in an attempt to convert them into a festive bauble of joy!

Almost Famous

Saturday 2 January | 8.30pm

We don’t know about you, but the idea of watching Almost Famous under the stars with your significant other sounds like heaven. Hey, we’d go just to listen to the brilliant soundtrack! Almost Famous is the story of a 15 year old music lover who becomes entangled in the 70s rock scene – and clearly the highlight of the night will revolve around the Tiny Dancer tour bus scene. Can anyone say sing-a-long?

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Saturday 16 January | 8.30pm

If there is one movie to see on the big outdoor QV screen this summer, make it The Avengers. This is not only the follow-up to one of the biggest superhero movies of all time, but also gives us a chance to glance longingly at the beautiful faces of Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jnr. and Scarlett Johansson. Grab an ice cream, get a good grip on your popcorn and tune your headset to the perfect volume, because this is the night for high intensity action and thrills.

The Castle

Sunday 24th of January | 8.30pm

The quintessential night for Australian movie buffs is here, as QV screens the cult-classic The Castle. Come prepared to hear classic quotes thrown around recklessly  and at times incorrectly – and we do suggest you feel free to correct any poolroom or rissole comments openly. At some point, as you lay underneath the stars, with or without a blanket, you will surely be likely to hear the audience whisper to their friends, ‘How’s the serenity?’

QV Outdoor Cinema runs from now until 28 February 2016 at QV Square Level 2, QV Melbourne, corner of Lonsdale and Swanston Streets. Tickets are $12, or $10 with a food package. For bookings head to the website
