If you haven’t already taken Monday off, you might want to get onto that after you hear about this one.
You can turn this Melbourne Cup weekend into a wine-filled adventure at Geelong’s Toast To The Coast. And have a day or two to recover.
Toast To The Coast is Geelong’s annual gourmet food, wine and music festival, celebrating all the region has to offer over two vino-heavy days. The event is in its 17th year, so they know what they’re doing.
Around 4,000 people attend Toast To The Coast each year, to sample some of the best fermented grape drops, from wineries such as Austins & Co, Jack Rabbit Vineyard and Bellbrae Estate.
There will be 22 wineries taking part in the festival, from the Surf Coast, Moorabool Valley and the Bellarine Peninsula, with shuttle buses available to take you from venue to venue. If you can manage to rope a friend in to be the designated driver, each of the wineries is offering free tea and coffee for their selfless act.
To fill your belly there will, of course, be foodie offerings like raclette, and beef brisket burgers at Austins & Co, locally-sourced, tapas-style food at Basils Farm and reuben sandwiches with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and seeded mustard from Scotchman's Hill. We can’t decide if we’re more excited about the food or wine.
There will also be live performances in the form of bands and solo artists going all weekend (who needs the Melbourne Cup with endless entertainment like this?).
Be sure to check out the full program to map out our vino journey. Catch us at the cheese platters.
