Most people think yum-cha and they think pork buns, har gow dumplings and enough shumai to choke a rhinoceros…but one of our favourite Fitzroy venues is mixing things up. Yep, Rice Paper Scissors is unleashing a very special vegan yum cha this month.
It's called the Very Veggie Yum-Cha Party, and it's running on the 26 and 27 of May, featuring tasty morsels like eggplant and cucumber ceviche with lemongrass and cassava crackers, fried zucchini and cucumber bao, lotus chips, and spicy Szechuan & wombok dumplings with black bean and chilli oil. So you won’t go hungry.
Even better, it’s only $55 for all-you-can-eat (yep, bust out those stretchy pants) so you can stuff yourself silly without breaking the bank.
If the idea of cucumber bao fills you with meat-eating despair, don't worry. The Very Veggie Yum-Cha Party is just the first event in a four-month yum cha celebration at Rice Paper Scissors, including a birthday bash (14 & 15 July) and limited-edition chefs selection nights (11 & 12 August). Check their website for all the deets.
The Very Veggie session is only available in their Fitzroy store, so you better get in quick before it sells out.
Ready to snuffle for truffle? Good, because Melbourne's getting a week-long truffle festival.
