Boy, do we have a treat for you this weekend, Melburnians! With everything from arty workshops to boozy lunches, free film festivals to glow-in-the-dark fun-runs, there's an event on for just about everyone this weekend in Melbourne. So rug up, gather your mates and don't even think about staying at home in your onesie. 

THURSDAY 10TH APRIL

Our go-to salon for a brilliant blow dry in a flash, The Poodle Blow Dry Bar in South Yarra, have just launched their Thursday blow dry special – it's like they knew we were getting ready for the weekend! Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar…the studio behind these family favourites, DreamWorks Animation, is coming to Melbourne today! Head to ACMI to see the world first behind-the-scenes exhibition featuring never-before-seen drawings, exclusive interviews, models and original artworks and interactive displays. Antz, The Road to El Dorado, Chicken Run, Shrek and other DreamWorks Animation cult favourites will be playing on the ACMI screens throughout the school holidays.

FRIDAY 11TH APRIL

This year, Melbourne rock band Something for Kate will celebrate their 20th anniversary with their biggest show to date; their entire back catalogue reissued on vinyl, deluxe CD and iTunes; the screening of a short film tracing their 20 year journey; and the release of a book 'Paper Trail', a visual history of the band's career. The rocking trio will be performing in Melbourne on the 18th of July and tickets go on sale this Friday at 9am, so make sure you get 'em quick!

Celebrate the launch of The Burger Book with an afternoon of free festivities at Federation Square this Friday.  Head to the Swanston Street forecourt to enjoy live music and two of the finest burger bars on wheels – Grill'd and Mr Burger. The burger-obsessed can take part in an epic burger challenge, the winner taking home a $200 Grill'd voucher, their height in beer and eternal bragging rights. It's only $10 to enter with all proceeds will be going to The Windermere Foundation.

Embrace your inner geek and immerse yourself in the wonderful worlds of comic books, science-fiction, console gaming and cosplay this weekend at Supanova Pop Culture Expo. Starting on Friday and running 'til Sunday, there's a huge range of supa-star guests attending, including Lucy Lawless from Xena: Warrior Princess and Battlestar Galactica, Alexander Ludwig from The Seeker: The Dark is Rising and The Hunger Games, and Peter Mayhew, the man behind the The Mighty Chewbacca from The Star Wars Franchise. SATURDAY 12TH APRIL

My exercise loving friends, it's time to gather your finest glow-in-the-dark gear, because Electric Run is coming to Flemington Racecourse on this Saturday! Whether you're a runner, walker or party shuffler, pick your pace and boogie your way through the 5K glow-in-the-dark course. A fun-run and rave rolled into one – what's not to love?

Electric Runners will also have the chance to upgrade their kicks whilst doing their bit for charity. Just bring along your current sneakers to trade in for a brand spanking new pair of Skechers (GOrun, GOwalk, GObionic or kids Twinkle Toes) at 20% off! Head to the Como Gardens' Open Weekend for two glorious days of flora and frolicking. Ride the miniature railway and take a tour of the vintage car museum, pick up some books and new plants for the garden, or sit down to a sausage, mug of Devonshire tea and enjoy the live music. It's the ultimate family day out, with a face painter, ventriloquist and puppeteer entertaining kiddies throughout the day.

The Bridge Road Film Festival kicks off this Saturday with a screening of a fair dinkum Aussie classic, The Castle.  Running until June, the festival will be showcasing some of cinema's most memorable films. Best of all? All movie screenings are completely FREE! You do need to be booked in advance, so jump on the website and secure your spot quick sticks! This one's going in the pool room.

It's baaacckk! Following two sell-out events, Flour Market is back for an Easter bake sale at the Fitzroy Town Hall this Sunday. Last time's favorites will be back for more, including Cobb Lane, Tivoli Road Bakery and All Day Donuts, alongside newbies, including Botanical Cuisine, Shuki & Louisa and Pierogi Pierogi…just to name a delicious, exciting few!

Early bird tickets are available again for those eager to eat, not compete, giving you half an hour to peruse and consume before general admission at 9:00am. At $10 a pop, it's definitely worth it.

Get thrifty at the Brunswick Flea Market this Sunday! Held on the second Sunday of every month, this flea market sells both new and pre-loved goodies, with everything from artisan foods to handmade jewellery to books and vinyl prime for the purchasing. They'll be heaps of pressie ideas for your friends and family this Easter, as well as a load of food to keep grumbling tummies at bay.
