Hot Toddys To Mulled Wine: Where To Get Your Hot Alcoholic Beverages In Melbourne

mulled Wine Melbourne

When the weather in Melbourne is barely (barely) suitable for human inhabitants, swap out your chilled beers and iced cocktails for some winter warming alcohol. From hot toddys topped with lashings of whipped cream to classically spiced mulled wine, here are all the Melbourne bars you need to keep your heart (and hands) warm this shivery season.

Riverland Bar

Situated on the edge of the Yarra River, rug up and head down to Riverland Bar for some of the finest winter warming drinks in Melbourne. Cradle their steaming mugs of hot spiced apple cider or mulled wine to warm the hands ‘n heart. If you truly can’t part with the harder spirits, the Riverland Bar offers the Gin Today concocted with Four Pillars Gin, hot blackcurrant and fresh orange.

Madame Brussels

Madame Brussels’ stylish rooftop terrace may top the list for summery high teas, but Melbourne’s winter weather means hot cocktails are required to entice shivering patrons into this particular garden party. Winter cocktails include their version of a hot toddy with Randy Brandy, Licor 43, vanilla, pineapple and apple cider with smoky scotch. The cheekily named GILF is a winning mix of Gin, Maraschino, chamomile, lemonade and honey. You might have to brace yourselves for the cold, but it's worth every shivery second.

Chuckle Park

Everyone knows that the best way to warm up is by leeching off other people’s body heat. Channel your inner penguin and squeeze your way into Chuckle Park this winter. Along with your usual cocktail-y suspects, the ingenious Chuckleberry Fin with indulgent alcoholic raspberry and chocolate should keep your soul (and spirits) high.

Feast of Merit

Melbourne’s favourite not-for-profit restaurant and rooftop is giving you another reason to visit this winter, with $14 mulled wine carafes every Friday night! Pair it with their deceptively delicious black pudding with celeriac and golden raisins or addictive flatbread served with Feast of Merit dips for a no-fuss Friday evening.

Naked in the Sky

For traditionalists, there’s a palate pleasing mulled red wine with the ideal balance of sweetness and spice. For winter Grinch’s, try Naked in the Sky’s Hot Devil made with Sailor Jerry Rum, house infused vanilla vodka and spiced apple juice. Steaming hot and brimming with all your favourite spirits, it’s the best protection against the cold. Trust us.

Whisky & Alement

One of our favourite post-work CBD bars, head down to Whisky and Alement for a variety of winter specials this year! Specialising in top-quality drinks and knowledgeable, charming bartenders, this cosy bar runs seasonal specials like their hot ‘n buttery (literally) scotch and warm ale. It’s the type of winter warming drink that will banish all colds and cure lingering blues.

The Wesley Anne

Who needs a jacket when there’s The Wesley Anne’s cinnamon-packed mulled wine? Cosy up with your favourite friends in this laidback, rustic Northcote bar and keep the piping hot jugs of mulled wine coming. With winter-warming pub specials like $12 pies on Wednesdays and $12 Roo on Mondays, your weeknight budget won’t feel the burn either.

The Flying Duck Hotel

Between hot toddies and rich mulled cider made with Willie Smith Organic Cider and spices, The Flying Duck Hotel has your winter drinks covered. Their hot toddy, made with Ballantines Scotch Whisky, cinnamon, cloves, honey, lemon and vanilla essence, is technically big enough for two. We suggest pretending your friend has been in the bathroom for the last hour and drinking the lot yourself.

Those Girls

Full disclosure, because everyone knows how you get when it comes to alcohol, the hot apple cider served from Those Girls is 100% alcohol-free. Made entirely from crisp Aussie apples, winter-warming spices and what we can assume is plenty of love and care – Those Girls hot apple cider is like drinking your favourite Aunt’s hot apple pie from a cup. We can’t imagine you’ll mourn the lack of tequila. You can find them at the Queen Victoria Winter Night Market until the 31st of August this year.
