On a sunny Friday arvo a few weeks back, The Urban List crew made tracks to The Standard for a lazy, long lunch on the deck.
If you haven’t been to The Standard yet (what is wrong with you?), it’s a super cool bar on Roe Street in Northbridge, serving up share food and cocktail carafes you won’t want to share. There’s a big bar area and an even bigger garden split over two levels, with the deck looking out over the city.
To get the feasting started, we hoed down on some of The Standard’s homemade charred sourdough bread. I would probably still have been satisfied if this was all I had eaten—it was so good—but we managed to push on to some bigger dishes in the spirit of research!
The standout dish on the menu was the chicken grill with rice noodles, peanuts, herbs and nuoc cham. It’s got all those tasty Asian flavours with the added punch of the Vietnamese tangy dressing.
For a naughty take on a salad, the crispy eggplant salad offers up the goods with grapefruit caramel, pea tendrils and chilli. It’s tasty, deep fried deliciousness. The same goes for the kimchi cauliflower.
If you’re a fan of pineapple—and we mean a big fan—the yellow fish curry with gooey rice balls, coconut sambal, and you guessed it, pineapple, may be for you. It was punchy, flavoursome and downright delish.
Because we had to get back to work we didn’t go crazy with the lunchtime drinking (we’re not that irresponsible) but heads up, The Standard’s drink list is epic. They’ve got aperitifs, rosé, champagne, red and white wines, as well as beer, cider and the aforementioned cocktail carafes.
Day or night, The Standard never ceases to impress. And the best thing, aside from the food and drinks, is that they serve food until midnight everyday except Sunday. It’s a rare Perth gem. Plus, word on the street is The Standard will be launching a new summer menu this Thursday!
