It’s time to make your way out of hibernation, switch off those electric blankets, and start getting those bodies back into summer shape. And as always, Melbourne is offering a bunch of activities to keep you busy while Pokémon hunting. Graffiti classes, Harry Potter trivia nights, and even vegan food truck festival--the hard part will be fitting it all in your schedule. 

Here are 11 awesome things to do in Melbourne this weekend.

All Weekend

New Beginnings Fair

Sick of the rat-race and have been dreaming of starting your own venture? You need to grab tickets to New Beginnings Fair, a super inspiring business event that’s jam-packed with practical advice for getting your dream off the ground. Held next Friday, 19 August at Laurens Hall in North Melbourne, it’ll give you access to inspiring business leaders, valuable workshops in a tonne of people that just might be able to give you the leg-up you’ve been looking for. Avenue Q

This week Avenue Q the musical is finishing up in Melbourne, so definitely grab yourself some tickets while you still can! This isn’t your average musical or puppet show. It’s the winner of three Tony awards and takes witty and outrageous humour next level. Avenue Q navigates adult life from a puppet’s point of view, and promises to have you in fits of side-splitting laughter! Tickets are limited–grab yours here.

Melbourne International Film Festival

If you haven’t had a chance to make it down to MIFF thus far, this weekend is your last chance. It’s Australia’s oldest, largest and most prestigious film festival (because Melbs is the best) –we can promise that you don’t want to miss this. Vegetarian and Vegan Weekend at the Food Truck Park

Good news vego friends, the Preston Food Truck Park is bringing you the very best meat-free street food. All ethically minded foodies can enjoy these epic feeds all weekend–as well as a vegan and cruelty-free designer goods market! We have a feeling even your meat-eating mates will want to head down here.

Thursday 11th

Glow Winter Arts Festival

The City of Stonnington is lighting up from this Thursday! The Glow Winter Arts Festival will be running for its third year, and will go until August 21st. There are both free and ticketed events, and will consist of five core events. Names such as Claire Hooper, Luke McGregor and Tom Gleeson will be performing at the Glow Comedy Club, Greville Projections (think light installations and projections) will be lighting up the streets, and food trucks will be there to cover your appetite while you check out everything on offer! Seems like the perfect way to celebrate the last month of winter in style.

Friday 12th

InterContinental’s Graffiti Classes

Graffiti classes at the InterContinental are back! After the success of their June and July classes, they’re letting you in on some of the fun. Blender Studios are teaming up with InterContinental to teach you how to cut and spray a stencil in the hotel’s own secret laneway. Is there anything more Melbourne than that?! So book in a night at the hotel and channel your inner Banksy.

European Night Market

For the last time this year, the European Night Market is taking over Madame Brussels Lane! While you may have made excuses for missing the last three pop-ups, we know you’ll be kicking yourself if you miss this one. Not only will there be live music and entertainment playing throughout the night, but you’ll be spoilt for choice with a bunch of European style food-stalls. Whether it’s crêpes or pierogi you fancy, we’re sure you’ll be able to find your ultimate comfort food.


For Jamaican tunes, delicious cocktails, finger food and loads of island fun The Grovedale is the place to be this Friday night. Harry Potter Trivia Night

These Harry Potter Trivia Nights just keep selling out, so here’s yet another one for Muggles to enjoy! Instead of waiting on that Hogwarts letter (face it, it’s not coming), put your wizarding knowledge to better use and show off your skills at trivia night. There’s a maximum of ten peeps per table, and drinks and pub meals will be on sale during the night! Don’t forget to wear your wizarding robes when you grab yourself some butter beer.

Degustation Lunch at Toko

If you love Japanese food as much as we do, you know there’s no better way to spend a Saturday. Toko, known for serving up some of the best modern Japanese food in the city, is holding a five-course style izakaya dining experience, with six boutique Aussie wines to match! Courses will feature salmon tartare with sweet potato chips, prawn tempura maki, and miso lamb cutlets. Sounds pretty damn fine, hey? They can even arrange vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free menu plans!

Dessert lovers unite at Nicolette’s dessert degustation that’s on every Sunday throughout August!
