Craft Beer Rising

Australia is built on beer. From a Prime Minister who can scull two and a half pints in 11 seconds, to our infamous Fosters, beer is a national symbol. For years it has been celebrated in the homes of Australians, stubby in one hand, sausage in the other. But this weekend, beer is finally getting the appreciation it deserves with an initiative we're very happy to get behind – Craft Beer Rising.

With the first annual Craft Beer Rising launching today, a full day dedicated to craft beer's existence on our shores, Melburnians and Australians alike will rejoice for the nationwide event coming to a local microbrewery or pub near you.

The Crafty Pint, an online guide to Australian craft beer, has invited brewers, venues and beer lovers to come together at their local watering hole to raise a glass in honour of an Australian tradition. With over 70 events being held nationwide, this event surely warrants a public holiday.

With Melbourne playing host to some of the best beers in the country, it's no wonder so many local businesses have backed this initiative and are opening their doors to share their passion with the community.

To welcome the latest shipment of US Hops, the integral ingredient in their signature pale ale, Little Creatures is throwing a party! Grab your friends and head into their Geelong brewery or The Dining Hall on Brunswick Street to have a few drinks, devour some donuts and play a few board games.

When your tastebuds are craving something sweet, head on over to Young and Jackson on Swanston Street where they are offering a unique range of beer and cider sorbets – yum! Created by Rickett's Point Fine Foods, we already know they will be delish, so head in early before they sell out!

If you consider yourself a little bit of a beer aficionado, Temple Brewing Co. are offering samples of any beer from their Temple range. With the crew available to answer all your lingering questions, you'll be ready to open up your own brewery in no time.

Down at St Kilda Primary School, The Local Taphouse 'Hop Hounds' play local brewers and beer writers, 'Maestros of Malt', in a the most talked about test on the cricketing calendar – the Big Beer Bash. With a sausage sizzle and Mountain Goat Summer Ale up for sale, pick a side and enjoy an afternoon in the sun.
