Part Of Fed Square Will Be Knocked Down To Incorporate A New Apple Store

Well bloody hell, here’s one that’s going to divide the masses.

Today it was announced that Apple will be building a new store in the Melbourne CBD, the catch is that part of Federation Square will be knocked down to be the new home of everybody’s fruit-based technology company.

When Fed Square was knocked up back in the early 2000’s everyone hated on it. It was almost more hated than the Yellow Peril (almost), but over the past 15 years we’ve grown to love it, and the fact that it’s Apple that is part of the plan will definitely turn a few heads.

The new design will open up the square to the riverside, and the architects state that the project will create 500 square metres of new public space.

The Apple concept store will be one of six around the world, and will be the first in the southern hemisphere. Melbourne is exactly the place for it.

Fed Square’s southern building will be demolished in 2019, and the new Apple store is expected to open in 2020.
