Only Fish Creek could make a tea cosy party last nine days.
But that’s what’s kicking off this weekend—an entire calendar of events that celebrate humble tea cosy (that woollen thing that goes over your Nan’s teapots, just FYI).
This is the fourth year Fish Creek has hosted the Tea Cosy Festival, and in 2018 the theme is going to be ‘TEAnational’ (honestly, we die). Basically, they’re going to celebrate tea cosies from all over the world, drink a lot of tea, and have a good old natter. It sounds bloody amazing.
You want to know what happens during a tea cosy festival? We’ll tell you. A Tea Cosy Exhibition (obviously), several high tea sessions with free-flowing Darjeeling, tea cosy demonstrations and workshops (!!), a big tea cosy market day, and even a ‘Knit & Natter’ session with tea cosy expert, Loani Prior (!!!!???). You can check out the full program (oh yep, there’s program) over here.
If you haven’t been to Fish Creek before, this is a bloody good excuse. It’s on the way to The Prom, just past Meeniyan. There’s an excellent pub (with a giant dead fish on the top), several cracking galleries, a strip of op-shops, cafes and general stores, plus the new Roland Harvey studio (90s kids will remember him fondly).
The fact that the whole town will be going tea cosy mad is just a bonus.
BRB, we’re just gonna pop the kettle on. Want a biscuit?
