Fitzroy’s Getting A Brand New 5-Storey Eatery

If you’ve ever passed Brunswick Street boozer, The Old Colonial, and wondered what the heck was going on inside, well, you’re going to LOVE what we’re about to tell you. The Fitzroy pub is in the throes of a transformation, thanks to brothers-in-law Vince Sofo and Paul Adamo, and will open next month as an EPIC five-storey eatery, with four incredible venues split across its floors.

The team behind the project, who also own the Espy, south-side izakaya Ichi Ni and South Yarra sushi hot-spot Ichi Ichi Ku, have big plans for the building. Following on from their love for Japanese venues, the ground floor will house Ichi Ni Nana Street Stall and Coffee Window, serving street food and caffeine fixes to Fitzroy’s finest, while the second and third floors will be home to Ichi Ni Nana Izakaya Restaurant, a more intimate Japanese dining venue.

If you’ve been counting, you’ll know that this leaves two more levels to go. The Village People Hawker Food Hall will take over the next floor up, with an ex-Longrain chef at the helm. And in case that’s not enough, the Upside Rooftop Bar crowns the venue—perfect for parties that dwindle into the small hours.

Set to open in early September, this is one new bar and restaurant in Melbourne that we can’t wait to get inside. Start counting down now, Listers…
