9 Of The Most Beer-Filled Events At This Year’s Good Beer Week

It’s that glorious time of the year when the streets run amber with liquid gold. Good Beer Week is here, and this year’s events are sure to have you with a pint glass in your hand non-stop.

As usual, there are a ridiculous amount of events happening across Melbourne, so, here I’ve done my best to track down the best of the best, the ones worth your time.

Here are the best events at this year’s Good Beer Week.

Goose Island Block Party


The Goose Island brew crew has teamed up with Geddes Lane Ballroom and Deathproof to bring us their first ever Block Party in Australia

Geddes Laneway will open up for the first time ever and will feature a line-up of local bands, mural art installation by George Rose, custom merch by Callum Preston, and food by Connie's Pizza and Snag Society. The musical line-up includes Ecca Vandal, The Bennies, DZ Deathrays, and more.

Crochet Crafternoon


Head out to the Yarra Valley for an afternoon of craft beer and crochet, it doesn't get any better.

Take a guided class that's suitable for every crochet beginner, and get stuck into the best beer that Watts River Brewing has to offer.

High Tea At The Metropolitan Hotel


High Tea is all the rage right now, well, it has been for a long time.

The Good Beer Week High Tea takes place at the Metropolitan Hotel in collaboration with Hawkers Beer. It features great dishes all paired with the perfect matched drop by Hawkers.

When: Saturday 11 May, 12pm - 2pm

3x3 At Colonial Brewing Co.

Port Melbourne

Fancy yourself a star on the court, then it might be time to put your money where your mouth is at Colonial Brewing Co.

Teams of three will battle it out to win a year's beer supply. Get stuck into three original American-inspired IPAs while you battle it out. Register your team here.

Sake VS Beer

Brunswick East

It's time for a showdown between two absolute heavyweights.

Kumo Japanese Restaurant is pitting the legendary Japanese drink Sake up against the humble beer. Kiuchi Brewery have been brewing sake since 1823, and started punching out some very nice craft beer in the late '90s. Australia's sake ambassador Andrew Bishop and Kiuchi Brewery staff will be on hand to guide you through the five-course degustation matched with both beer and sake.

Good Mornington!


Bayside goes west in this collaboration.

The team from Up In Smoke has teamed up with Mornington Peninsula Brewery for a three-course dinner that will use smoke and Mornington Peninsula beer in every dish. The dinner will also be matched with brews, and there'll be a special beer unveiled on the night.

When: Tuesday 14 May, 6pm - 10pm

Brew Off


It's time for a brew off. In one corner you've got Green Man's Arms, in the other, Burnley Brewing.

The two Melbourne heavyweights will each brew a Saison using the Styrian Golding hop. By heading along you'll get a chance to taste and compare the beers, and ultimately, declare a winner.

British Beer Spectapular

East St Kilda

The Great British Beer Spectapular is back with a bang to celebrate the best that Britain has to offer in the beer stakes.

Taste beers from more than 20 British breweries including Tiny Rebel, Fullers, Wild Beer Co, Magic Rock, Siren, Buxton, and more. There will also be classic games, English pub food, and live music.

Doggy Paddles


If you're up for a trip to Bendigo during Good Beer Week, then Doggy Paddles at Handle Bar is definitely worth your while.

Get stuck into paddles featuring four beers from Moon Dog Brewery during the takeover. You can also tuck into locally smoked bbq delights from Smokestack Lightning Texas Barbecue who will be dishing up four gourmet mini hot dogs to pair with the beers.
