7 Good Beer Week Events We’re Frothing Over

If you’re a lover of fine beer, then Good Beer Week is absolutely the week you’ve been waiting for.

Good Beer Week brings together the finest brewers from around the great state of Victoria, the rest of Australia and, of course, the world. In just 7 years the event has grown enormously, now featuring more than 300 severely amazing events for you to attend—and it all rounds up with the Great Australian Beer Spectapular that runs at the bottom end of the week from May 19 – 21.

Given there are so many events to choose from, you’re probably not even sure where to start looking. Well, here are 7 events we reckon you should hit up.

Brewer Takeover At Good Heavens

Melbourne’s favourite BBQ destination Fancy Hank’s—and their rooftop bar Good Heavens—are getting ready for their first ever Good Beer Week event. To kick it all off California’s Stone Brewing Co will host a 6-tap takeover, and you’ll be able to meet the brewers during an exclusive Q&A.

When: Sunday 14 May, 12pm – 4pm
Where: Good Heavens, Level 2, 79 Bourke Street, Melbourne

IPA Matched BBQ Dinner

You can’t down a slab of slow cooked meat without wanting for a delicious IPA sitting in front of you. Well, you’re in luck, because Fancy Hank’s will have IPAs from Fixation Brewing, Wolf Of The Willows Brewing Co. and New Belgium Brewing on hand to match with a selection of Hank’s canapés, starters, smoked meats and desserts.

Great Australian Beer Spectapular

Carlton

The biggest event on the Good Beer Week calendar, GABS is a beer, cider and food fest that features more than 600 beers and ciders from around the world, including 180 that are specifically brewed for the festival. Along with the finest beverages from around the globe, you’ll be able to get yourself a feed as well, they haven’t announced who’ll be on show just yet but keep your eyes on the GABS website closer to the date. There are 2 sessions to book into on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday wraps up with an afternoon session named “Silly Hat Sunday”, pretty self-explanatory really.

When: Friday 19 May – Sunday 21 May (Fri/Sat sessions are 12pm – 5pm, and 6:30pm – 11:30pm. Sunday session is 12pm – 5pm)

Ballarat Beers Through The Years Festival

Ballarat

Ballarat is well known for the gold that comes out of the ground, but the city also has a rich history in liquefied gold. The festival will bring together local brewers who will share experiences, methods, advice and they’ll also be putting together festival exclusive recipes for you to tear into on the day. Brewers on hand include Red Duck, Athletic Club, Cubby Haus, and Rebellion.

Feral Brewing Take Over The Royston

Richmond

One of our favourite brewers from our west—Feral Brewing—will be taking over every tap at Richmond institution the Royston Hotel and sending our those relaxed West Australian vibes. There’ll be a pig on the spit, happy hour specials, DJ’s and—of course—an amazing range of beers on offer.

Paddle By The Yarra

Southbank’s newest bar Hopscotch has teamed up with Murray’s Brewing Co to bring you 4 of their favourite ales, including the Whale Ale American Wheat Beer, their Angry Man Pale Ale, and you’ll have to wait and find out what the other two will be.

Portlandia

Collingwood

Good Beer Week’s Portland crew will take over Le Bon Ton to serve you up a fantastic evening featuring beer cocktail guru Jacob Grier, as well as brewers from Deschutes, Breakside and Commons.
