We’ve all seen the photos—crowds of people covered from head to toe in powdered pigments and paints in all the colours of the rainbow. But you thought Holi only happened in India, right? Wrong. Melbourne is getting its very own festival of colours to celebrate the onset of spring. What better way to kick out those winter blues than pelting your mates with paint?!
Held at CERES Environmental Park in Brunswick (which just so happens to be one of the most beautiful inner city spots on the northside…if you haven’t been there yet, check it out!), the one-day festival will be held on Saturday 7th November, giving colourful partygoers the entirety of Sunday to scrub themselves clean, ready for returning to normality on Monday. As with any good party, the Melbourne Holi festival will feature live music from friends of CERES, delicious, locally-made food and drink, and surprise events throughout the day.
Obviously the Melbourne Holi festival will be hella fun (how are you going to decide who to cover with fluoro paint powder first, Listers?), but we’re doubly excited about this one as funds raised by the colourful celebration will go to supporting school lunch programs, teaching and education programs, and water harvesting systems in rural areas of India. What better way to help those in need than by partying in their honour?!
If you’re already chomping at the bit to lock this date in your diary, you’d better book your ticket for the Melbourne Holi festival here and get practicing your powder-pelting technique. Roll on Spring, Listers!
