One of the hottest names in Australia’s fast-moving restaurant scene, Andrew McConnell, is set to open his very first wine bar later this month. Called Marion, the brand new Gertrude Street venue is set to open its doors on Friday 23 October, when it will be serving up seasonal light bites, weekend brunch dishes and a fantastic selection of drinks to Melbourne’s food-loving finest. Excited much? Of course we are.
Much like McConnell’s other venues (Cutler & Co, Supernormal, Cumulus… Need we go on?) Marion will epitomise effortless foodie chic. Dropping by for a pre-dinner drink? Sure thing! Looking for a post-dining night cap? No problem. Keen to prop up the bar and see where the evening takes you? As long as it’s accompanied by a glass or two, Marion is the perfect venue for whatever locals desire.
As well as working together with Cutler & Co’s sommelier, Liam O’Brien, to develop a bespoke wine list that brings together the old, the very old (…and very expensive) and the new, Marion will keep wie to-go and serve brunch every weekend from 8am. Cutler & Co sous chef Allan Eccles will head up the kitchen, so you just know there will be some must-eats on the menu!
With the announcement of Marion, Fitzroy’s latest wine bar and eatery, we’re beginning too wonder if there’s anything Andrew McConnell can’t turn his culinary hand to. Time for a food truck, perhaps? Watch this space.
