If you’ve spent the recent cold spell crying out for take-away so that you can eat it from the comfort of your doona, hey, join the club! To help you dine from the comfort of your sofa during the colder months but avoid packing on those winter pounds, we’ve put together this awesome healthy hit-list of healthy takeaway options.

From paleo-to-go to heat-at-home healthy choices, here are eight of Melbourne’s healthy take-away meal providers.

Okay, so it’s hit the single-digits and leaving the house just isn’t an option. What to do, hey Listers? Check out healthy meal delivery service Youfoodz, who deliver fresh, pre-prepared meals straight to your doorstep. Recently we’ve been loving their new winter warmers, including the chicken and mushroom carbonara (chicken = delish lean protein!) and the braised beef cheek and winter mash—the ultimate winter warmer! Why not stock up for the week and save yourself the hassle of cooking or heading out for take-away—Youfoodz meals are ready to eat in 2 mins flat!

Peko Peko

If you love Japanese take away food in Melbourne, you need to treat your mouth to some take-away sushi, noodle salads and more from Smith Street secret Peko Peko. From the deliciously fresh and veggie-packed sushi rolls to the steamed ginger and soy fish, you can order take-away from this tasty menu and feel totally guilt-free. Winner.

Get That India

South Yarra

You might not believe it but yes, you CAN enjoy Indian food and make a healthy choice too! Prahran Indian fusion restaurant GTI—Get That India—serves up some amazingly flavoursome take-away carb-less dishes that will have you drooling at first sight. As well as an incredible Mango Mania salad (mango and coconut marinaded chicken on a fresh bed of salad), they do a quarter and half tandoori-style chicken that’s ready to go—pair it with some DIY dishes at home and you have the ideal solution when you’re cooking for mates.

Various locations

Seafood lovers, holler at ya! Hooked should be your go-to for healthy take-away meals in our beautiful city. Just about everything can be ordered to go from Hooked's Fitzroy and Windsor locations, but if you’re in a lunchtime hurry, we’d recommend the house fish box (go for the grilled option every time!) with rice and Asian greens—tasty, easy, healthy, awesome.

Prahan paleo and clean eating institution Palate is the best healthy café in Prahran for take-away breakfasts and lunches. While their set menu contains some of the most amazing healthy meals in Melbourne, it’s the pick’n’mix to-go option that we love. Depending on the meal size you go for, you can choose from either five or seven gluten-free, sugar-free and paleo inspired dishes to curate your own plate of foodie perfection.

Yong Green

Melbourne raw food fans, vegans and vegetarians, say hello to your new favourite take-away restaurant in Fitzroy. Yong Green serves up incredible healthy meals from its legendary Melbourne kitchen every day except Mondays. As for our to-go recommendations? Try the lentil hot-pot and Japanese curry—both great choices for eating at home on cold nights—and, of course, the epic tempeh burger, which is the perfect eat-now healthy take-away solution.

Street Organics

A favourite of the Melbourne clean eating crew, Street Organics in Malvern is a healthy cafe/grocer/online store that will keep your pantry and tummy full without packing on the frosty-weather flab. Swing by and take out one of their delish acai bowls for brekkie, or a healthy rye wrap for lunch, while stocking up on the freshest organic produce from their on-site grocery. Or bookmark the Street Organics online store (they deliver!), so you’ll have a fridge full of goodness next time Mr Pizza beckons.

Foxes Den

Elwood, Malvern & Port Melbourne

No list of healthy take-away in Melbourne would be complete without our chicken-lovin’ friends, Foxes Den. Now with three delicious dens—in Port Melbourne, Elwood and Malvern—head here for free-range chooks, and rotating salads, full of fresh, local ingredients. They’re also dishing up hearty soups, including a chicken broth with a ginger and kale kick that’ll ward of the winter lurgy.
