You might have heard a little something about an Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N popping up in Fed Square this week. But superheroes still need to eat (except that Vision guy—not really sure what’s going on there...)
So, along with the Avenger’s installation, Fed Square is getting a sweet new American diner and rooftop speakeasy with views over the CBD. Melbourne, welcome to Midtown.
Inspired by the gritty, old-school diners of the Lower East Side, plus a bit of central NYC’s hustle and bustle, Midtown will be dishing up retro burgers, shakes, sundaes and even shawarma (a spit-roasted Levantine wrap). Tommy Collins from The Atlantic Group is handling the food, although we’re hoping he wasn’t responsible for the puns (‘BLAT Panther’, we’re looking at you).
Our picks? The Jaffle Iron menu is looking great—mac n’ cheese jaffles with Monterey Jack, Spag Bol jaffles and house-made baked beans. Personally though, we’re heading straight to the burgers, followed by a homemade apple pie with vanilla bean ice-cream, candied pecans and blueberry sauce. Freaking nom.
Upstairs there’ll be a secret rooftop speakeasy (you’ll have to ask the staff to point you toward the concealed entrance). Panoramic views of the CBD, New York-style cocktails, timber and navy blue decor—it’s the perfect spot for some post-work Manhattans #getcarriedaway.
Where: The Paddock, Federation Square CBD
When: Open from 15 March
