Munich Brauhaus Brings Oktoberfest to Melbourne

Strap on your lederhosen and tighten those dirndls – Oktoberfest is coming to Melbourne!

Opening Wednesday the 20th of August, Melbourne's newest and largest beer hall, Munich Brauhaus, promises to bring a stein-full of Bavarian cheer to South Wharf.

Seating over 900 people, the state-of-the-art venue will channel the traditional Bavarian Bierhaus, where guests can eat, drink and dance the night away to oom pah pah bands. Forget booking that flight to Munich – this is one big, beery Oktoberfest celebration, smack bang in the middle of Melbourne, running 365 days of the year!

As we all know, beer (or bier) is serious business, and as you'd expect from any self-respecting Bavarian Bierhaus, it's all about the steins here, baby! Munich Brauhaus will be pouring its own signature Munich Lager, alongside exclusively imported beers including Fürstenburg Premium Pils, Löwenbräu Original, Stiegl Goldbräu, Franziskaner Hefe Weizen Hell, plus heaps more! In celebration of their opening, Munich Brauhaus will be holding ceremonial tappings up until the 30th of August, where each individual beer will be cracked open, the first keg poured out to thirsty punters. Heck, we'll prost to that!

'What about the food?', you cry? In true Bavarian style, Munich Brauhaus will pay homage to all things pork – sausages, pork belly and pork knuckles aplenty. The standout of the menu, however, promises to be the suckling pig, sourced locally from Riverlea and cooked over a charcoal spit, sprinkled with cardamom and fennel salt, and served with truffle mashed potatoes, baked apples, semmelknoedel, sauerkraut, braised red cabbage, market green salad and bier jus….phew!! Mein lederhosen is feeling tighter just thinking about it.

Mammoth pork feasts aside, Munich Brauhaus will be dishing out a range of other Bavarian classics, including freshly baked pretzels, crispy golden schnitzels and scrumptious desserts (guten tag, strudel!). With set menus designed for sharing, feeding groups from 5 to 100, this beer hall guarantees one heck of a traditional Bavarian feast (read: you'll have to be rolled outta there!).

Munich Brauhaus couldn't have come at a better time, either, launching just in time for the real Oktoberfest, AFL Final Series and, of course, all of those boozy Christmas and New Years parties. Yep, with two bars, three dining rooms, sleek function spaces and an epic bier garden, Munich Brauhaus is pretty much the ultimate party destination. We feel a host of Oktoberfest-themed parties coming on!

Melbourne's newest Bavarian Bierhaus is owned and operated by the Urban Purveyor Group. They certainly know a thing or two about beer halls, having operated Sydney's renowned Löwenbrau Keller for over 40 years, as well as nine Bavarian Bier Café venues in Queensland and New South Wales. Now, they're bringing their Bavarian spirit down south, setting up a slice of Munich in the heart of Melbourne. And mein, mein, we couldn't be cheerier (beerier?) for it!

Can't wait to get your fix of wiener and weissbier? Never fear, Munich Brauhaus is taking pre-opening bookings! Click here to secure your spot. Prost!
