Come on, 2018. Give us a freaking break. First you burn down Bimbos, and now you’re taking Pope Joan from us. What’s next, huh?
Yep, it’s true. Pope Joan is closing down to make way for a beautiful urban park that children can enjoy for generations. Jokes—it’s been knocked down to make way for a 7-storey apartment. Because if there’s anything Melbourne really needs right now, it’s cheap one-bedroom apartments (sorry, we’re still raw about this).
To celebrate eight years in the biz, Matt Wilkinson and the crew are throwing a menu of favourite dishes from 1 June, plus four Friday night dinners from 1 – 22 June (and yep, the famous Milawa Chicken Kiev will make a comeback). Check out the noshing here.
The tiny silver lining on this huge
cash grab urban development, is that Matt’s Pie Shop next door will continue on a separate title. So we can still taste that beautiful bastard’s cooking. At least that’s something right?
Where’s the ice-cream, we need to comfort eat.
Where: Pope Joan, 77-79 Nicholson St, Brunswick
Last Day: Last dinner service will be 22 June. Last day service will be 24 June. Closes at 3pm.
