We were overdue for something like this—it’s been at least a week since Melbourne invented some delicious mash-up monstrosity. This year we’ve seen doughnut HSPs, potato cake burgers, and edible cookie dough sandwiches...
Now it’s sushirittos. The Californian food craze has officially landed in Melbourne.
The skeptics will raise an eyebrow and say there’s probably a reason why God placed Mexico and Japan so far apart. But these sushirittos were made by the team at Sash. The guys who brought sushi pizza to Windsor. If anyone can nail Japanese fusion, it’s head chef Ken Tut (ex Ichi Ni and Ichi Ni Nana).
Sash will be unleashing five varieties. Compact flavour punches like marinated salmon, kingfish and tuna, topped with chilli mayo, cucumber and alfalfa, or spicy tuna doused in teriyaki sauce, chilli mayo, avocado and purple cabbage. All wrapped up in well-vinegar’d sushi rice. They’ll be available on Sash’s new takeaway menu (as well as in-store) which launches on UberEATS on 13 October.
The cherry on top? Sash are giving away 500 sushirittos for just $1 buck. All you have to do is rock up at midday, get to the front of the queue and point. Score.

And the good news keeps on coming. There's a place in Melbourne doing $1 tacos. Not a drill.
