Jerk. Chicken. No two words get my tastebuds tingling quite like the mention of this Caribbean delicacy. And at last, Melbourne is getting its very own Caribbean inspired restaurant and bar, complete with spiced cocktails, a charcoal grill and a whole menu of exotic cuisine. Say hello to Port of Call: Saloon and Island Grill.
Serving authentic jerk chicken, grilled seafood and a variety of drinks inspired by the spice trail, Port of Call is set to open on Franklin Street, opposite the Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne CBD. This new Melbourne restaurant and bar will feature an open kitchen, letting you get up close and personal with the charcoal grill action.
Owner, Owen Westman (who also runs The Collection in Richmond), is keen to keep Port of Call: Saloon and Island Grill eco-friendly, too. He plans to cut down on wastage by using egg yolks from egg white cocktails in their home-made brandy advokaat, and composting virtually everything that he can in a system pinched from friends in San Francisco and New York. Delicious food that does good, too? Yes please!
Port of Call: Saloon and Island Grill is set to open in just under a month. Until then, we’ll be dreaming of a jerk feast washed down with some killer Jamaican rum. You read it here first, Listers!
Port of Call: Saloon and Island Grill opens in mid-April.
