Turns out Port Fairy isn’t the only town to enjoy a spot of Dachshund racing. This month Hophaus in Melbourne is getting in on the action by hosting their annual Teckelrennen (we’re guessing that’s German for ‘racing sausage dogs in ridiculous costumes’).
The event will consist of qualifying heats, before a very slow, very inept final. The course? A monster 15 metre straight, sure to test the stamina of the average Dachshund. It’ll be a non handicap event, with some of the country’s finest sausage-shaped athletes flying in to compete.
After the final there’ll also be a costume parade. Expect Dachshunds dressed in hot dog buns, racing caps, superhero costumes and anything else people can fashion from materials they picked up at Spotlight.
Money raised from the event goes straight into the pockets of Dachshund Rescue Australia too, so it’s all for a good cause.
