Our favourite bit about the Queen's Birthday long weekend is the fact that it’s not even Queen Lizzie’s birthday—that’s in April. Any opportunity for a public holiday, right Australia? To make the most of this very special day, we’ve rounded up all the events going down over the long weekend to make it a birthday bash to remember.

Here are 16 things to do in Melbourne this Queen's Birthday long weekend.

All Long Weekend

Queen’s Birthday Weekend at Symphonia

Spending the day at a winery just feels fitting on the Queen’s bday—especially when you add games of croquet into the mix. That’s exactly what you’ll get if you head down to Symphonia in Myrrhee this long weekend. While you’re at it, indulge in a BBQ lunch or some cheese fondue (book ahead for this one) as you sip wines from all over Europe. Plus, there’ll be a shed clearance going on, so you can stock up your collection on the cheap. Score.

When: June 9—10
Where: Myrrhee, Victoria

Healesville Wine & Wildlife

Keep the kids happy wandering this Aussie animal sanctuary, while you induldge in some seriously delicious tastings of Yarra Valley's best food and wine. Over the three days there'll be paella, hot chocolate, wines (both mulled and otherwise), cheese, charcuterie and more, alongside live music performances. Yeah, we'll see you there.

When: June 9—11
Where: Healesville Sanctuary

Port Fairy Winter Weekends

So, the reigning event here is the Daschund Dash (we’ll get into it more below), but there are a whole bunch of other Port Fairy activities to get stuck into over the long weekend—like a series of light projections by the wharf, various workshops, open houses with heritage listed buildings and even a Pulp Fiction themed party. We’re preparing our costume as we speak.

When: June 8—July 22
Where: Port Fairy

The Cricketer's

In honour of her Royal Heighness' big day, the Cricketer's mixologists have gotten together to mix up a concoction fit for a queen. Introducing 'the Duchess'. Served in a teacup, this cocktail is filled with gin infused with Japanese cherry and rosemary tea, Aperol, lemon and honey and pistacchio. Plus, on Sunday they'll be serving a traditional roast beef, even served with Yorkshire pudding.

When: Saturday 9—Sunday 10 June, 12pm—late
Where: Cricketers Arms, Port Melbourne

MoMA at NGV

That’s a lot of acronyms, sorry. Basically, in June NGV is welcoming a collection of some of New York’s Museum of Modern Art fave pieces into their collection. We’re talking works from Jason Pollock, Picasso, Dali—you get the gist. This one is gonna be big.

When: Saturday June 9—October 7
Where: NGV

Friday 8 June

Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend Blowout

Okay, so we’re not sure we can picture the Queen headbanging along to a band called Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, but what a mental image. Plus, crumpets are fairly British, so that’s fitting. Over at The Curtin they’re throwing a Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend Blowout, with live performances by Psychadelic Porn Curmpets, Ferla, and Pseudo Mind Hive. Brace yourself for this one.

When: Friday 8 June, 8:30pm—11:30pm
Where: The Curtin

Saturday 9 June

Pontoon Snow Party

Free doughnuts one weekend, a snow party the next. Is there anything Pontoon can’t do? That’s right, they’re kicking off the chilly season with one of the hottest tickets going round this long weekend. Head down to St Kilda for DIY s’mores roasting over open flames, snow (of the artificial kind, we’re gonna guess), beer pong and hot toddies. And that’s only some of what they’re offering.

When: Saturday June 9, 3pm—late
Where: Pontoon, St Kilda

Opening Weekend At Mt Baw Baw

It's snow season, baby! And while everyone's got their favourite mountain, we've got a soft spot for old Baw Baw. They're kicking off in style on Saturday with live entertainment, stuff for the kids, a TechnoAlpin Snow Factory (which means guaranteed powder) and free resort entry (this runs out on Saturday). Get all the info here. If you're into the tunes, hit up the Alpine Hotel on Saturday night—they're running live music after dark.

Port Fairy Daschund Dash

This event has been running for 12 years. Running. Daschund dash. You get it (we're sorry). Anyway, basically, you’re gonna want to get yourself down to Port Fairy for the most adorable race you’ve ever seen. They may not be corgis, but they’re not too far off, at least in leg-length. It's all happening on Sunday. More deets here

When: Sunday June 10, 10:30am—12pm
Where: Port Fairy

WinterGlow

Take a break from the partying, and engage in some family-friendly entertainment with WinterGlow over at Boneo Maze. Get rugged up to face the winter weather and get lost in one of Melbourne’s favourite mazes after dark. Follow up with a neon photo booth, fire show, vintage carousel and heaps more. When your fingers start really feeling the cold, there’s mulled wine from Red Hill. That bit is less family-friendly, but like we’re gonna turn down mulled wine.

Where: Boneo Maze, Mornington Peninsula

Queen’s Birthday Eve Block Party Ft. Nina Las Vegas

Former Triple J host and Aussie DJ ‘Queen’ Nina Las Vegas is throwing a block party in the Inn Hotel car park this Queen’s Birthday Eve—and it’s definitely a step up from all those high school parties in the garage. Where: The Inn Hotel, Geelong

Queen’s Birthday Eve at Precinct

Turns out Queen’s Birthday eve is going off all 'round the city—and that includes The Precinct Hotel. Bring in the big day with live music from 9pm, some questionable dance moves, and a free shot if you come dressed in your most British attire. Time to whip out that Burberry (imitation) scarf. Or your Royal Guard uniform, because we all have right? Plus, Her Majesty drinks specials all night, including Earl Grey Vodka Iced Tea. Long live the Queen.
