So the parentals called and informed you they're coming to town. Eek! The apartment's a mess, you're late on a deadline and frankly playing tour guide is just not on your priority of to-dos this week. Never fear, we've got you covered with our hit list of things to do with mum and dad, that don't involve downing piña coladas at The Cliff Dive.

From great foodie finds to beautiful scenery and wine dens, here are the best things to do in Sydney with the folks.

Things To Do

Bondi To Coogee Coastal Walk | Bondi

You just can't beat the view on the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk! The perfect way to kick start your weekend, out-of-towners will marvel at the beautiful, natural surrounds as you traverse some of Sydney's best beaches. If hunger strikes, pick up a bite to eat at M Deli, Three Blue Ducks or Coogee Pavilion, which are all just a stone's throw away.

Sydney Harbour & Royal Botanic Gardens | CBD

Okay, so it might be a bit touristy but no trip to Sydney is quite complete without a visit to sparkling Sydney harbour. Stroll through the gorgeous Royal Botanic Gardens before making your way to Circular Quay and The Rocks. Café Sydney, Aria and Quay all boast spectacular vistas across the city and look even better if the parents are paying!

Brett Whiteley Studio | Surry Hills

For culture-seeking visitors, Brett Whiteley's workplace and home is open to the public every weekend. Located in Surry Hills, the space houses unfinished paintings, art equipment and memorabilia such as photos, furniture and an impressive music collection. Stop for lunch nearby at The Book Kitchen, Fouratefive or Bourke Street Bakery.

Eveleigh Market | Eveleigh

A must for any foodie, Eveleigh Market is held every Saturday morning at Carriageworks, and sees the iconic space transformed with fresh produce, beautiful flowers and gourmet food stalls. Taste-test your way through the market before picking up a selection of dumplings and pork buns at Kylie Kwong's well-known stall. For those visiting mid-week, be sure to check out our monthly market calendar.

Things To Eat

Panama House | Bondi

Located minutes away from the bustling Bondi Beach, Panama House serves hearty South American-style dishes that are sure to satisfy mum and dad. For breakfast you can't go past the oven baked sweet corn fritters, while at dinner, our eyes are on the New Orleans sticky baby back rib. We guarantee dad'll be licking his plate clean!

Fika Swedish Kitchen | Manly

This gorgeous Swedish café is well worth the ferry trip to Manly. Fika has garnered a cult following for its cinnamon buns and melted Belgian hot chocolate. Walk it off at Shelly Beach – Manly's little slice of paradise.

Bridge St Garage | CBD

While the CBD may be filled with over-priced establishments, Bridge St Garage is the local's best-kept secret. A great spot to start or end a tour of the harbour, the menu is very parents-friendly with favourites like New York-cut steak, classic burgers and an epic lamb shoulder banquet. To wash it down there's an extensive wine list, craft beer on tap and a mix of classic and contemporary cocktails.

Things To Drink

Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel | Watsons Bay

You'd be hard-pressed to beat the view at this seaside beer garden! Enjoy a long lunch or sunset dinner over Sydney classics like salt and pepper calamari, fish 'n' chips and seafood stew. The ferry will drop you off from Circular Quay and is a great way to take in our glistening city. Note: this place gets jam-packed (and very noisy) so it's a good idea to take the folks early.

The Corner House | Bondi

A Bondi institution, The Corner House is a cosy wine bar perfect for catching up on conversation over a bottle of red. Get comfortable on the leather lounges and take your pick from one of Sydney's most extensive wine lists. In the dining room enjoy a selection of antipasti, roasted pork belly and crab and mascarpone ravioli – it's all delicious!

10 William St | Paddington

Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of Paddington, 10 William St is without a doubt one of Sydney's best wine bars and restaurants. With specialties from Italy, France and Spain, you'll find a drop to suit every taste or whim. The food menu is a mix of things to share, with highlights including beef tartare, calamari fritti and its renowned tiramisu.

Nomad | Surry Hills

Sourcing wines from every corner of the country, Nomad is a must on your list of places to take mum and dad in Sydney. The food menu is equally as impressive and changes seasonally. Be sure to try the housemade charcuterie, kingfish carpaccio and wagyu skirt steak. Bonus – for a large, cavernous space, it's surprisingly quiet which is a real win when dining with the folks.
