Ahh autumn in unpredictable Melbourne, where the leaves are still green and very much attached to their trees, and the temperature is set to be over 30 for the foreseeable future. Make the most of this glorious weather while it lasts and enjoy everything the great outdoors and Labor Day weekend has to offer, including a music festival in the Royal Botanic Gardens, fireworks, carnival rides and an outdoor cinema. For our fairer skinned friends, may we recommend some zinc?

The Donut And Beer Festival

Ever since its announcement a few months back, Melbournians have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Donut and Beer Festival, and we’re so happy it’s finally here! This brilliant festival celebrating all things holey has been extended to two days so head to The Village Melbourne on Sunday and Monday to delight in the sweet offerings from Goldelucks Bakeshop, 196Below and Dip'd. Gluten free and vegan friends donut worry, Cocomama’s has got your back with an offering of gluten free, vegan and raw treats, including their famous sushi donut. Entry is a simple gold coin donation with proceeds donated to Eat Up.

A Weekend In The Gardens 

Sit back, relax and enjoy a weekend of music in the Royal Botanic Gardens. Boasting a stellar lineup, musical acts will include legends such as Boy & Bear, San Cisco, Daryl Braithwaite and Johnny Farnham, who was kind enough to take a break from his farewell tour to make an appearance. Munch on goodies from a huge range of food stalls or select from a range of delicious cocktails inspired by the gardens, featuring native wattle seeds, lemon-scented gum and riberries.

Moomba Festival

Moomba Festival is lighting up the city once again and this year’s program is absolutely chockas. Along with the usual crowd favourites—including watersports, the Birdman Rally and the iconic Moomba Parade—crowds can expect fireworks every night, a super groovy roller disco and sand sculpting workshops. Make sure to jump on the Friday Ride Pass to enjoy unlimited carnival rides from 6pm to 9pm.

Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival

If you’re looking to spend your weekend surrounded by beautiful people wearing even more beautiful clothes, look no further than the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival. With runway shows featuring some of Australia’s finest established and emerging designers, VAMFF also promises beauty workshops, exclusive retail events, fashion seminars and awesome live entertainment. For all the best in red carpet arrivals, pop-up bars, beauty and pampering, make sure you catwalk over to The Plaza, located at the Royal Exhibition Building, 5:30pm to 11pm, 14 to 19 March.

Justin Bieber Purpose World Tour (Un)official After Party

A pop-up Bieber bar will be hitting The Royal Melbourne Hotel this Friday, serving as the (un)official AP of your boy JB’s Purpose world tour. Sip on a Justin Bieber cocktail as you sing along to J Biebs karaoke and pose in the photo booth flaunting #mycalvins.

Baronette Sampling At House of Maximon at Eurohouse

The quickest way to get those weekend vibes coming in strong this week is by heading to the House of Maximon at Eurohouse on Saturday for a cheeky cocktail, made with Baron Samedi spiced. Cocktail sampling will be happening from 8.30pm this Saturday and again on 1 April. There’ll also be live sets from DJ Chamo, who’ll be spinning all of his fave Latin music and $8 signature Baron Samedi Spiced Rum and ginger beer cocktails will be available.

Melbourne Food And Wine Festival Sneak Peek At Flemington Racecourse   

If, like us, you simply cannot resist a sneak peek, you’ll definitely want to head to the front lawns of Flemington Racecourse this Saturday to sample some of the delights set to appear at the 2017 Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. Enjoy the Festival of Racing’s Super Saturday as you quaff wines, brews and ciders from Brown Brothers Milawa Vineyard, The Flying Brick Cider Co. and Otway Brewery. The Love Mussel and The Flying Calamari Brothers will offer a delectable range of meat and seafood while Maker & Monger, Milk the Cow, Yarra Valley Dairy and That’s Amore Cheese will be taking care of the fromagerie.

Make Delicious Sugo With Mister Bianco 

Throw on an apron and learn how to make authentic Sicilian tomato sugo, thanks to Mister Bianco’s very own Joseph Vargetto. Not only will guests be able to take home a tub of their delicious homemade sauce, they will be treated to a three course lunch of delicious stuzzichini, ricotta gnocchi with tomato sugo and basil, and a selection of gelati. As if the long weekend wasn’t excuse enough to drink on a Sunday, Munich Brauhaus is hosting a summer ender bender to bid farewell to the warm weather—might be a tad premature, have you checked the weather forecast lately? Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone Pop-Up Outdoor Cinema

There’s nothing more relaxing after a long weekend than losing yourself in the wonderful world of witchcraft and wizardry, which is why this Labor Day you’ll find us at The Common Man, watching three loveable misfits embark on crazy adventures as a teacher possessed by a dark wizard tries to destroy them. Admission to Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is free but seats are limited, so why not book a food and beverage package from $18 and secure yourself a seat?

Party Hard With A Special Labour Day Piknic Elektronic

Usually on a Monday you'll find yourself working on spreadsheets, drink copious amounts of coffee, and watching the clock in hope that you can leave at 5pm on the dot. Luckily the public holiday gods have graced us with Labour Day, and Piknic Elektronic aren't letting the opportunity pass them by to hold an event. Fed In French

As part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, Federation Square will be filled with delicious French fare to prove to you once and for all that French food is so much more than just frogs’ legs and snails. Stalls will be overflowing with incredible fromage platters, charcuterie, crepes and macarons that are to die for. Of course no French-themed anything would be complete without a selection of fine French wine and champagne—fill up your glasses at Le Bar before heading to the Bon Ap’ pop-up bistro. Bon appetit!
