Melbourne’s weather has gone to sh*t—what a shocker. But look, as tough as it is to pull our heavy coats back on, our moods don’t have to be grim. This week you have plenty to do to warm your icy heart—from something completely different, like a fab Drag Brunch, or gaining an extra layer of winter fat at the Bayside Food Truck Fiesta.

Plus it’s the long weekend (ish). Time to go outside with these 18 awesome things to do in Melbourne this weekend.

Happy Dia de los Muertos folks! Celebrate it a ‘lil differently this year by showering the human skull with love. Yep, you read that right. The Art Gallery of Ballarat is home to the summer exhibition, Romancing The Skull, where you can find yourself inside a giant human skull, orbiting the earth in a VR simulation. Or if potential motion sickness crosses that one out, definitely check out artist José Guadalupe Posada’s iconic 19th century prints when they touch down in Australia for the first time ever.

Gird your livers: a weekend of hard drinking is on the way with the beloved weekend-event, Toast to the Coast. Held over the Melbourne Cup long weekend, it’s perfect timing to get a bit tipsy with a drinky in vineyards across Geelong. Launching this Friyay, Wacom The Next Level Exhibition is legit next level art. There’ll be forty renowned artists (narrowed down from a whopping 1900) from all around the world on show to make you feel terrible about your lack of creativity. That aside, at least you’ll feel super inspired and cultured when you head on home from this freeeee event.

Getting back on the road today is the Bayside Food Truck, promising another summer of the hottest eats and coolest drinks from 20 of Victoria’s best. Everything from beer to expresso martins are on tap, and food will be flying outta the kitchens of Nem N’ Nem, Pasta Face, Greek Street Food and so many more. Heads up, they’ll also be a Pupper Appreciation Parade for a cuteness overload.

If touching things you shouldn’t at galleries sounds like you then skip on over to RMIT Gallery tonight to get your hands on all sorts of sciency tech. We’re talking light and sound, live performances and projections, and plenty of interactive experiments for the science whizz in you. This is a one-night-only event, so don’t miss out.

Friday 3 November  


Seven of Melbourne’s kickass female artists are coming together this Friday to present something big. The ten-minute act is still under wraps, but being all about bad girls you can expect a night of sexuality, MA+ language and feminism, with proceeds from tickets split evenly between our local artists. It’s defs not a night for the faint-hearted, but where would the fun be without it?

Saturday 4 November


For all them classy vibes, head down to the Grampians this weekend to class up your act with a totes casual concert from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and wine from Mount Langi Ghiran. Not to make all your friends super jelly or anything, but if you get tickets to this event, you get to see a vineyard transform into a theatre with music bouncing off walls of wine barrels. There’ll also be heaps of cheese.

Time to undo that tie and slip out of the heels ‘cos The Waterside team are throwing a saucy rooftop after-party with $10 flutes of sparkling Chandon x Seafolly Limited Edition Brut or Rosé. Yoga and wine—it’s a win, win. Power and yoga couple, Patrick Beach and Carling Harps will be hosting a day of yoga, food and wine. The day will kick off at the Panton Family Vineyard with some yoga to feed your mind, body, and soul before downward-dog-stretching into some wine and platters on a couple of picnic rugs. Unplug, recharge, enjoy great food—that's the motto at this event.
