While Melbourne doesn’t face the same lockout laws like one of our neighbouring cities, our nightclub scene in recent times has been somewhat tumultuous.
Earlier this year, longstanding Swanston Street nightclub, Lounge shut down for good and news that Boney will be throwing its last ever party in November also broke last week.
But 24-hour nightclub, Colour is here to stay. Melbourne’s newest nightclub has landed in a venue with a very colourful past, with the location once being a former church, as well as playing host to ‘90s S&M club Hellfire. And more recently, Yours & Mine.
The north-side nightclub is located in Carlton on Queensbury Street, with two levels both embellished with Funktion-One sound. Upstairs there’s a stylised, orange-tinged band room and downstairs is where the nightclubbing happens. At the moment their calendar ranges from album launches through to raves hosted by internationally-acclaimed electronic pioneers.
During the week Colour plays out as a bar and band room from Tuesday to Thursday. On Friday and Saturday nights, the venue transforms into a nightclub which is when the 24-hour liquor licence comes into full effect, meaning that weekend parties can run well and truly into the night… and through to the morning.
Colour has been brought to us by some of Melbourne’s most renowned party throwers behind Lounge, Something Unlimited, Lucid and 6am At The Garage. So if you haven’t already been, trust that you’ll be in for a very, very good time.
