Some things just go together, like Bert and Ernie, or wine and cheese. The best combo (in our humble opinion) would have to be a burger and fries. But not just any burger and fries. We’re thinking finger lickin’ goodness made from the freshest quality ingredients.

‘Where to experience such magic?’ I hear you say. Well, our friends at YOMG are the burger masters, and they have this one covered. They’ve got a knack for creating epic burgers, fries and shakes from the freshest, highest quality local produce they can get their mitts on.

Here are our top picks for some of the best burger combos in Melbourne:

1. Comfort kings

The Shang-Fry fries and The Kingsway burger are like the prom King and Queen of the comfort food world. Let’s start with the fries: served with pulled pork, crispy shallots, toasted sesame, basil mayo, chilli, and spring onions, Shang- Fry is an all-singing, all-dancing take on loaded fries - and MAN do we dig them. On the burger side of things, you’ll find a double serve of Aussie, grass fed, hand pressed beef pattie, and a double serve of cheese accompanied by lettuce, tomato, caramelised onion, tomato sauce, and the important secret sauce, all wedged into a fluffy bun. Welcome to The Kingsway. Want to wash it all done with something amazing? Get the Oreo Ripple shake.

2. Something a little different

If you’re after a bit of somethin’ somethin’ extra, then this combo is just the ticket. The fries are called Fetta Fettish (they had us at fetta!) and are dished up with fetta (clearly), a delicious dukkha, a squeeze of lemon, plenty of oregano and some spring onions on top. I feel like finally someone has taken all my favourite flavours and put them on top of fries... what could be better than that?! Pair your fries with The Black Pearl and your ordering game will be strong – a delectable tempura battered red chilli soft shell crab, Asian slaw, coriander, and sriracha mayo all in a black bun. The crab is super fresh, the tempura batter is just right, and the crispiness of the slaw balances the whole lot perfectly. Basically, it’s heaven in a burger.

3. California dreamin'

It’s no secret that the Americans have well and truly mastered the burger and fries combo, so we thought we’d pay homage with an epic USA combo. The American fries come with cheese, bacon, tomato sauce and American mustard - and are every bit as decadent as they sound. You could enjoy the fries on their own, but we recommend you have a proper hit-out and grab a Bergerk as well. Think a perfect burger bun stuffed with southern fried chicken, cheese, lettuce, tomato and chipotle mayo. Thirsty? Grab an Apple Pie shake.

4. Round the world

If you want to add a few round-the-world flavours to your burger and fries, we’ve got you covered with this epic combo. The Lankan fries come with curry spiced pulled chicken, cheese sauce and spring onions. Can we please all take a moment to appreciate this. Cheese. And curry chicken. ON FRIES!
For the burger, let your taste buds skip across to Asia and grab The 12th Hour burger. It’s topped with slow cooked pulled pork, fresh Asian slaw and basil mayo to create a little burger package of fresh and tasty Asian flavours. Need a drink too? The Two Bit Lemon Tart shake is our go-to.

5. Veg-o-rama

Bit of a veggie head? YOMG offers a couple of epic vegetarian options, but our pick is The Hipster burger – it’s actually vegan. Think garlic roasted pulled mushroom, Asian Slaw and lashings of cashew nut mayo all squeezed in to a burger bun. Sounds delicious right? The only way we think it could be improved would be to pair it with the aptly named Just Fries. Wash it all down with a salted peanut butter caramel shake. Hooly dooly!
