You Can Now Sleep In Igloos Under The Northern Lights In Finnish Lapland

By Tina Varghese - 07 Dec 2018

Lapland is probably already on your bucket list because it’s the quintessential Christmas Wonderland, but did you know you can actually sleep under the mesmerising green hues of the Northern Lights while you’re huddled up inside a giant igloo?

Sounds like the kind of fantasy you’d be rubbing magic lamps for, doesn't it? Well, all you really need to fulfil this fantasy is get yourself a ticket to Finland and a bunch of warm clothes, and you’re all set to take in one of nature’s most delightful offerings.

Tucked away in Finnish Lapland, the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort is home to some of the most magical igloos and chalets, transforming it into the ideal winter wonderland meets glamping staycation. Think snow-covered wilderness and a trail of glass igloos, so the only view that you have in bed is the whimsical dance of the aurora borealis.

You can also trade up your standard igloo for a bigger four-person igloo because you can’t live the dream without your team, obviously. Alternatively, you can opt for a ‘Kelo-Igloo’ which has the old school vibe of a rustic log chalet with an igloo attached to it for the sensational views and a private sauna. Consider us sold.

A glass igloo will set you back around $628 to $900 per night, depending on your occupancy. But considering magic lamps are a lot harder to find, this seems pretty reasonable for one of the most Gram-worthy trips you’ll ever take.

The igloos are only available from August through April, so make sure you plan ahead.

If those dates don't suit you, you might want to look into glamping on the Bolivian salt flats next year.
