Melbourne has one of the most vibrant creative scenes in the world. Whether you’re a fan of underground street art or prefer something a little more sophisticated, this city has it all. We’re also more kind-hearted than many international contenders—just talk to anyone who’s lived in London or New York and we can guarantee that they’ll agree. So, what happens when you put awesome art and an eagerness for helping others together? This brand new art collective just might have the answer.
Many Hands is a group of Melbourne creatives who have come together to run an online gallery and hold events that do good in the local community. This year, they’re working with the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC), one of Melbourne’s most worthwhile charities, to raise $10,000 for those in need. How? Many Hands has hand-picked 7 awesome local artists who have each donated work for its latest collection of prints, including photographers Greta Carroll, Prue Stent, Saskia Wilson and Ben Hosking, print-maker Andie Leslie, illustrator Annu Kilpeläinen and artist Maurice Golotta, who runs Brighton's MSG Gallery. 50% of the profit of each print sale goes to ASRC, meaning that whether you’re treating yourself to a piece of art or buying it as a gift for a friend, you’re doing good, right on your doorstep.
While the group’s web store isn’t live quite yet—it’s set to launch next week—the team has just announced their next art party, on Wednesday 2nd September, in Collingwood’s Allpress Roastery. You’ll be able to check out the latest series of amazing Many Hands art prints (we’ve already put our name down for a Prue Stent piece!) as well as hear more from the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre about the problems faced by people seeking refuge in Australia.
Quiet Deeds beer, Four Pillars Gin and Capi mixers will be serving delicious drinks to thirsty art-lovers, Boho Blends paella and raw treats food truck will be on hand to stop you from going hungry, and awesome local musicians Stahsi and Esese will be on music duty. You just know it’s going to be epic!
A party that celebrates local art AND helps one of Melbourne’s top charities…You’d want to be one of the first people to check it out, right? Gather your mates, get to Allpress from 6pm on Wednesday 2nd, and get ready for an incredible evening that’s all about art, community and doing good. Trust us, it’ll be the best decision you make all year.
