Toasty Marshmallow Pop-Ups Are Taking Over The CBD Tomorrow

You’ll want to round up your closest bunch of softies for this one.

Did you know this Friday is National Marshmallow Day? Probs not, because Australia is set to celebrate it for the FIRST TIME EVER. And it’s all thanks to Shop The City.

Big shots Melbourne Central, the Emporium, QV, the Strand and Melbourne’s GPO are teaming up for a whole day of sweet events (get it?), each with their own twist.

Over in Melbourne Central, shoppers can get a taste of chocolate fondue with a molten purple fountain of chocolatey goodness (where you can dip ultra-violet marshmallows) in honour of Pantone’s colour of the year. They'll even let you sprinkle them with edible glitter, because what else?

The good times keep coming at the Strand with free wagon-wheels dipped in melted chocolate right before your eager eyes (and even more eager stomach). Follow it up with some more gooey goodness over at QV as you thaw your fingers in a cosy Winter Wonderland...with a build-your-own s’mores station. Combine all three treats and you may risk losing your teeth—but hey, it’s a celebration.

Ride out your sugar coma with a live music performance from electro-soul singer and songwriter Tanya George outside the GPO from 5pm, or keep embracing your inner child with a wander through the ‘Curiouser & Curiouser’ room at the Emporium, thanks to their partnership with ACMI’s awesome Alice in Wonderland exhibition.

For the big kids, there’ll also be a pop-up Wonderland bar at Emporium from 5pm, serving themed cocktails (in potion bottles labelled ‘drink me’, of course).

Who knew the humble marshmallow could bring so much joy?

Heads up, you can get a photo of your pooch in a sailor outfit this weekend. Don't ask us why.
