Everyone’s got a couple of solid gold karaoke hits up their sleeve, but you might need to re-think your strategy at this place. Melbourne’s Immigration Museum is hosting a pop-up karaoke stage—and it’s gonna be all British bands.
The program’s called You Really Got Me! Bedroom Karaoke. The ‘You Really Got Me’ bit refers to a 1964 classic from The Kinks. The ‘Bedroom’ bit only makes sense when you see the stage. Yep, the Immigration Museum has gone and built a replica teenager’s bedroom circa 1967 (faded band posters and all). There’s a mic in the centre of the room, and that’s where you’re gonna belt out everything from Oasis and The Beatles to Boy George and The Spice Girls.
The pop-up will be running from 8 – 28 January, and is included with your General Admission ticket into the Museum. It’s all part of the British Migrants: Instant Australians? exhibition, running till 15 April.
Feeling pumped? If you want to do this properly, Dr. Martens and a couple of nose rings are probably a good idea.
Where: Melbourne Immigration Museum, 400 Flinders St

Ready for more culture? An artist has engineered the 'smell of Melbourne' at the NGV. Heads up—it's kind of gross.
