Melbourne’s Got A New Fine Dining Brunch Spot | The Verdict

Middletown is Prahran’s newest, design savvy, insta-perfect café.

The attention to detail that has been paid to every tiny detail of Middletown is hard to overlook. You’ll be struck by the clean marble surfaces, the brass finishes, the perfectly curated artworks and THAT navy interior. The whole fit our screams ‘chic’ which is just as well as the café has been designed to pay homage / has been inspired by Kate Middleton, the woman herself.

From the same team behind Operator 25, Middletown is a completely different kettle of fish. Stepping away from the ‘theming’ aspect of their CBD venue, Middletown is a more subtle approach to décor and dining.

Enough about the décor, what about the real reason you go out for brunch – the food? Well, I’m glad you asked.

The all-day menu us a perfectly balanced collection of dishes that are guaranteed to include something for everyone.

I tucked into the trio of mushrooms and didn’t have an ounce of order-regret. Served on a celeriac puree with crispy pancetta, poached egg, pecorino cheese and brioche soldiers, it was my idea of the perfect savoury brunch.

I’m not really a fan of sweet breakfasts, but on recommendation, I also tucked into the coffee waffles, which are fast becoming a staple favourite. Served, with strawberries, truffled honey, and house-made vanilla ice cream, they were pure heaven, even for this anti-sweet tooth.

Though the serving sizes are slightly smaller than usual, there’s no way you’ll leave hungry. I think that its just that we’ve all come to expect huge, oversized servings.

Side note: The menu, as in the actual physical thing, is housed in embossed leather holders and is printed on the plushest of papers – no  disposable placemat-menus here!

If you’re looking for a brunch that’s got a bit of a regal feel to it (who isn’t?!) then Middletown is the order of the day.
