There are some cracking things to do in Melbourne this week, Listers, ranging from the cultured (check out Thursday), to the cooking-focused. Read on for five awesome dates that you should definitely get in your diary…
Coburg Drive-In Food Truck Festival Returns
Combining two of our loves—movies and food, duh—Coburg Drive-In Cinema is showing Ant-Man, the latest superhero flick from the Marvel comic series, alongside some of Melbourne’s best food trucks. We hear that Taco Truck, Senor Churros, Beatbox Kitchen and the guys behind Donutella doughnuts will be pulling up for the screening. Can’t make Wednesday? It’s showing Thursday night too! Gates open at 5pm, book your tickets here.
Duck Masterclass With Ian Curley
South Melbourne’s latest addition to its culinary landscape, The Urban Kitchen, kicks off its latest series of cooking lessons with a duck masterclass hosted by Ian Curley of The European. Unlike some skills showcases, The Urban Kitchen has 44 cooking stations, meaning you’ll be deconstructing your own bird and learning real hands-on tips from the professionals. As well as learning from the pros, there’s also wine and cheese from Spring Street Grocers to follow. Pure foodie heaven. Find out more and pick up your ticket here.
Nite Art Takes Over The CBD
If you didn’t get your fill of Melbourne’s creative scene at last week’s Gertrude St Projection Festival, get yourself to Nite Art, an evening celebrating painting, drawing, video, sculpture, light art and more in eight venues along Flinders Lane plus a host more throughout the city. Opening their doors from 6pm until late, you can begin your evening at the Ian Potter Centre or the Hamer Hall Arts Centre before taking to the streets to discover smaller venues that are right on your doorstep. Check out the full list of exhibitors and galleries on the Nite Art website.
European Night Market at Madame Brussels Lane
Are you dreaming of a trip to Europe this year? Well, save yourself the airfare and get down to Madame Brussel's Lane’s European Night Market, which kicks off at 5pm this Friday and runs every Friday evening until mid-August. There’ll be your favourite European treats on sale, including fresh pretzels, pierogi (Polish dumplings) from the Eastern Bloc team, gözleme (tasty Turkish flatbread), crème brûlée from The Brulee Cart, and incredible mulled wines and ciders. Wrap up warm and get ready for the festivities!
David Bowie Is Finally Opens Its Doors!
Listers, there is absolutely no way that you can’t have heard of David Bowie Is, the colossal retrospective of the popstar’s career to date, that’s on show at ACMI in Federation Square. Combining rare footage, costumes (check out our favourites here), memorabilia and a tonne of insights from those who know the Thin White Duke best, this is one show that you simply CANNOT miss this winter. Find out about special events tied into the exhibition, including seminars, late night gigs and film screenings, and book your tickets via the ACMI website.
