Looking for things to do in Melbourne this weekend? You've come to the right place, my friends! The Melbourne International Film Festival kicks off tonight, you can get gluey at a day-long craft workshop and spend your Sunday perusing sweet vinyl deals at a record fair. Oh yeah, and did we mention free ice cream? Phew!

Without further ado, here's your guide to what's on in Melbourne this weekend. Grab a spoon and dig in!

Thursday 31st July

Film buffs of Melbourne, it's that time of year again! Australia's biggest and best movie marathon, the Melbourne International Film Festival, is back and better than ever, boasting a program of 300 flicks from all corners of the globe. The film festivities kick off tonight with a screening of the Spierig Brothers' latest sci-fi thriller, Predestination, at Hamer Hall. Want to know what else is playing? Melbourne International Film Festival | 31st July – 17th August 

All-you-can-eat oysters? Oh, shuck yes! Albert Park Hotel's Oyster Frenzy returns for its 9th year, boasting endless oysters, plus an all-you-can-smash crab feast and bottomless glasses of sparkling, boutique beer, wine and cider. We're told the organisers want to beat last September's record of 18,760 oysters consumed, and we're mooore than happy to give it a solid crack!

Friday 1st August

Fashionable folk looking for things to do this weekend, have we got the sale for you! Three incredibly stylish brands – Christopher Esber, Michael Lo Sordo and Kahlo – are joining together for one epic warehouse sale, offering 85% off new season and archive pieces. This may prove to be very, very dangerous!

Held on the first Friday of August of every year, Jeans for Genes encourages all to wear their jeans to raise much-needed funds for the Children's Medical Research Institute. So, not only will you be raising money for a good cause, you also have the perfect excuse to rock your denim outfit again (a la Britney and Justin circa 2001).

This August, Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery is hosting a decadent hot chocolate festival, ladling out 31 different types of hot chocolate over the 31 days. What creamy, dreamy flavours can we expect? Think sea salt and caramel, Aztec chilli, roasted macadamia…drooool! Sip, savour and vote for your favourite flavour to go into the draw to win your body weight in chocolate (seriously, could there be a better prize?). You can order a mug, or partake in a hot chocolate tasting session, running every day throughout the festival. Talk about the ultimate tummy-warming event!

Here's a raw-some new opening for you, my leaf loving pals! This Friday, The Raw Store in Thornbury is celebrating their opening with a launch party where they'll be serving organic nibbles, booze and endless good vibes. Once things get up and running, The Raw Store will be operating on a membership-only model, meaning they can pick up their local, organic sustainable products at cost price (oh my kale!). Clean eaters of Melbourne – a stop off at this shop should be at the top of your list!

Vintage-lovers, Dear Gladys online store is hosting their first pop-up shop this Friday! Head to the Queen Victoria Women's Centre to rummage through vintage threads, peruse homewares and indulge in a glass or two of bubbles with the glamorous Gladys girls. All this fun is for a good cause, too – Dear Gladys is owned and operated by Fitted For Work, an organisation helping disadvantaged women get back into the work force. My, my, spending never felt so good!

Looking for sweet things to do this weekend in Melbourne? Your prayers have been answered, my sugar fiend friends! This Friday is Swiss National Day and Movenpick, our favourite Swiss ice cream brand, is giving away a FREE ICE CREAM to celebrate. We don't even care Friday's forecast is 10 degrees and showers – free ice cream is the most delicious treat there is! 

Note: it's only the first 250 customers of each store, so you'd better head in super early to avoid disappointment.

Friends, not only is this Friday Swiss National Day, it's also International Beer Day! And my, oh my, isn't it worth celebrating! Commemorate the day appropriately by heading to one of Melbourne's best beer halls or, if you're after a little at-home celebration, pick up a growler or two from Tru Bru in Prahran. Oh, and by the way, we're officially deeming Saturday the 2nd of August 'International Hangover Day', so have a beery one, folks!

Saturday 2nd August

Melbourne city-slickers, take note – you don't have to trek out to the 'burbs to get delicious Victorian produce! The Southbank Farmers Market launches this Saturday, with more than 40 local producers including Golden Axe Cider, Milawa Cheese, Woodfrog Bakery and Plains Paddock on the program! What's more, you can catch a cooking demonstration by Nic Poelaert of Brooks restaurant (running at 9am and 11am) and go into the draw to win dinner for two at Brooks. Gypsy/bluegrass quartet The Scrimshaw Four and Nuevo Flamenco guitarist Nadav Tabak will be supplying smooth tunes. Held on the first Saturday of every month, we can already see this becoming one of our favourite Melbourne farmers markets!

Southbank Farmers Market | Boyd Community Hub in Southbank | 8 – 1pm

Held in the band room of Northcote Social Club (yep, sticky carpet and all!), the Northern Regards Artisan Market sells sustainable, up-cycled and recycled handmade wares from Melbourne creative types. Oh, yeah, and they serve beer! This boozy, ethical market runs on the first Saturday of every month. Be there!

Ahhh cheese – from brie to blue vein, gouda to gruyere, we just can't get enough of the stinky, gooey stuff! And, as you should all know by now, we just can't get enough of Spring Street Grocer's Cheese 101: Behind The Rind. Run on the first Saturday of every month, this hour-long course covers all things fromage, from the many different types of cheeses to how you should eat them (lots and often, we say!). Of course, tasting of said cheeses is absolutely mandatory.

What goes best with cheese? Wine, of course! Held on the first Saturday of every month, our favourite wine-tasting session, City Cellar Door, is on once again at Cumulus Up! This week you can sip and swill your way through the Yarra Valley's finest wineries, purchasing your favourite drops at cellar door prices. Like always, the kitchen will be roasting a whole pig, serving up delicious crispy pork buns for just $10. You're guaranteed to leave with a couple of bottles (and who are we kidding, a couple of those buns, too).

City Cellar Door | Cumulus Up in Melbourne CBD | 12pm – 4pm

This Saturday, Unleash Creative Melbourne, in conjunction with Craft Cubed Festival, is hosting an event that is sure to get your creative juices flowing. The day-long course comprises of a number of intimate workshops, during which craft mentors will guide you through everything from folk painting to feather making. They're pretty tight lipped about all the crafty details, however we can tell you you'll leave the day with four 'make and takes', a full belly, an epic goodie bag and some new like-minded mates. Naw.

Sunday 3rd August

Looking for foodie things to do in Melbourne? Take your behind to Ombra Salumi Bar to welcome Tasmania's finest cider makers in town for the Tasmania Unbottled Roadshow. Join reps from Spreyton, Pagan Cider and Franks Cider for a familial Italian lunch – a selection of sharing dishes paired with tasty ciders.

Lost & Found Market in East Brunswick has once again partnered with Crate Digger for their annual Record Fair this Sunday! Entry is free, the records are dirt cheap and PBS FM will be broadcasting 'Blue Juice' to air in store. Oh yeah, and Taco Truck will also be on hand, keeping grumbling tummies in check.

Still looking for things to do this weekend in Melbourne? Well get your vintage skates on, 'cause Round She Goes Fashion Market is back at Box Hill Town Hall! The award-winning indoor fashion market will feature over 60 stallholders, selling everything from preloved designer wares through to quirky, one-off vintage accessories. All the pretty things making you hungry? Iv's Burritos Mexican Food Truck and Mister Nice Guy Vegan Cupcakes will also be there to keep you energised throughout the shopping expedition.
