When cult Japanese cheesecake bar Uncle Tetsu landed on Swanston St last year, Melbourne basically lost its proverbial. There were queues out the door for weeks.
Now, to celebrate the opening of a second digs in Melbourne Central, they’re launching a brand new Matcha Cheesecake this week in a 4-day, matcha-fuelled orgy of destruction. They’re calling the whole thing ‘Matcha Explosion’. Nice.
Along with the new cheesecake, there’s going to be a Matcha Japanese Pudding, topped with omnomnom whipped cream. But that’ll be a limited-edition—only available during the 4-day Matcha Explosion. We’re told the matcha itself is the high-quality stuff, imported direct from Japan.
Apparently Melbourne has been requesting Uncle Tetsu Matcha Cheesecake pretty much since Day 1. How long till smashed av’ cheesecake and Aperol Spritz cheesecake become a thing? It’s anyone’s guess.
