Five Awesome Things To Do In Sydney This Week

By Alissa Del Vecchio - 14 Mar 2016

Kansas-City-Shuffle-Dumplings.

Like all weeks, it’s a good time to be a Sydneysider. Although the heat is turning us into sweaty messes, Sydney is still here, event-filled and as fun as ever. This week at The Urban List, we’re thinking puppy pattin’, food-fights, vodka nights, dumpling delights and art all up in lights. Go crazy kids!

Puppies in Martin Place

Get ready for lots of “squeeees!” and suit-clad business folk covered in fur this week because puppies are coming to Martin Place! To launch their 23rd Annual Million Paws Walk that’s happening in May, RSPCA is bringing the paws to the people at Martin Place with free dog food-samples, meet-and-greets with shelter dogs looking for a home (maybe even yours?), activities and the chance to sign up early to be a part of the greatest dog squad since 101 Dalmatians. Clear your canine calendar and all your Tuesday work commitments because those pups need a’patting.

Where: Martin Place, CBD
When: Tuesday 15th March, 8am - 2:30 pm
Cost: Free

Operation Drink Me (Vodka) at Sydney Cocktail Club

Sydney Cocktail Club is here to debunk the myths behind the bar’s best kept secrets. After a smashing Whisky Session, Operation Drink Me targets its next notorious suspect—Vodka—
proving there’s more flavour to this colourless pick-me-up than you’re led to believe. With Tasmanian Fire Drum, Hartshorn and even Vestal Vodka which hit our shores from Poland only a mere handful of months ago, this night is sure to kick off your tastebuds on an international scale. So where should you meet, you might ask? Like all good things, it’s classified. Enlist here.

Where: Sydney CBD/Kings Cross
When: Wednesday 16th March, 6:30pm - 9:30pm
Cost: $48.02 per person (a very specific amount!)

2016 Glenfiddich Culinary Challenge

To us, nothing says scrumptious like a good ol’ fashioned cook off. On the hunt for ‘family-inspired’ dishes with a dash of spirit (in both the literal and figurative sense), and to raise funds for Soldier On’s mission of helping physically and emotionally wounded defence force personnel, this culinary challenge pits a handpicked set of five semi-finalists heralding from Raven's Eye, ONE6EIGHT and Centennial Parklands Dining for one delicious night. Yet, fighting for glory won’t be easy—the big shots have to wow the tastebuds of 100 diners over five courses under the stars of Sydney’s best parklands. Itching to see it all unfold? Save your seat here

Where: Centennial Parklands Dining
When: Monday 14th March, 7pm - 10:30pm
Cost: $130 per person

Kansas City Shuffle's Dumpling Pop Up

For every person that immediately invested in a black belt after watching Fists of Fury, let’s face it, the closest thing we’ll ever get to a karate chop is the fight between our chopsticks and a damn good dumpling. Luckily for us, Kansas City Shuffle’s Bruce Lee inspired pop up dumpling bar ticks all the boxes. Decked out with glowing lanterns, vintage Bruce Lee action figures and fortune cats galore, say hello to a retro take on Chinese. Freshly steamed dumplings and Young Henrys craft beer on tap bring a perfect combination to The Rocks, we’re sure the man himself would enjoy. Follow your nose from Thursday.

Where: Kansas City Shuffle, The Rocks
When: Every Wednesday to Friday from 4pm for around 12 weeks from Thursday 17th March

Art at Night on Kensington Street

Don your hipster glasses and have your ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ at the ready for a walking, talking street-long homage to food, culture and budding local artistry. Art at Night will transform Kensington’s Old Clare Hotel and The Old Rum Store into thriving exhibition spaces where wandering and wondering are both encouraged and compulsory. Teaming up with Tracy Luff’s sculptural works, the Strutt sister’s architectural and interior designs, Lyn & Tony’s sensory examination of the Australian environment and many more talents, all scored under the musical magic of CuzN, you’ll forget you’re even in Chippendale and not an actual gallery. Plus, when your mind is full and your stomach empty, take a trip through Spice Alley for an Asian fusion of flavours as detailed as the art itself.

Where: Kensington Street, Chippendale
When: Wednesday 16th March, 6pm - 9pm
Cost: Free
