Two weeks until Christmas means panic mode for some and composed procrastination for others. For the latter half—a quick reminder that those Christmas gifts are not going to wrap themselves. We suggest you visit the Bespoke Letterpress pop-up store and stock up on all your gift-wrapping needs. We’ve also got plenty of entertainment in Sydney next week for all you bored, stress-free festive junkies who sent out greetings cards in November and placed turkey orders in June.

The Bespoke Letterpress pop-up store
Make crappy presents seem less crap by adorning them with wrapping paper, gift cards and ribbon from the Bespoke Letterpress pop-up store in the Strand Arcade. The Bowral based studio has been making unbelievably pretty greeting cards, wedding invitations and stationary since 2006— using antique cast iron machines to print their intricate designs. This year Sydneysiders can pick up all sorts of Christmas themed stationary and wrapping paper from the Strand Street pop up, right up until the big day.
When: 1st – 24th of December
Where: Strand Arcade, CBD
MLC’s Merry Go Round
Like bugs, we’re attracted to pretty lights and thankfully the makers of Vivid Sydney’s Urban Tree Project have struck again and turned the Commercial Travelers Association Building into a neon festive-themed carousel (yes, you read that right). The MLC’s Centre’s Merry Go Round is yet another rule-changing Christmas installation that flies in the face of tradition—think dancing robots and singing mechanical animals. The show kicks off each night between 8pm and midnight and is well worth a trip into the city with the little ones in tow. Alternatively, enjoy this one after Christmas work drinks for a mind-bending good time.
When: 1st till the 25th December
Where: MCL Centre, Martin Place
The Sound of Music at The Beresford Hotel
Around Christmas there are certain classic films we must indulge in and The Sound of Music is irrefutably one of them. For those eager to treat their ear canals to the sweet sound of Julie Andrew’s voice than do so along with “a few of your favourite things” from The Beresford’s bar. Warm up your pipes and grab a seat before the movie starts at 8pm.
When: Wednesday 16th December
Where: The Beresford Hotel, Surry Hills
Spoiler Alert at Giant Dwarf
Gather your movie buff friends together for the Spoiler Alert quiz panel show at the Giant Dwarf Theatre. An expert panel, including hosts Kyran Wheatley (triple j) and Rhys Nicholson (Just For Laughs, Dirty Laundry), will discuss everything from the best pre-Craig Bond to Spielberg’s biggest flop. Expect pun-based games like Charades of the Lost Arc and The Talented Mr. Scribbly. Nothing is too trivial for the Spoiler Alert panel and no one-star catastrophe unworthy of a mention.
When: Tuesday 15th December
Where: Giant Dwarf Theatre, Redfern
Cost: $17 or $15 for concession
You know what'll also take your week to the next level? Treating yourself to a high tea of course, and we've got Sydney's best right here.
