Spring has sprung, Melburnians! About bloody time too, we didn’t think our power points could take our electric blankets anymore. Spring means a lot of things to us; warm weather, flowers, and ripper activities for you to enjoy. This weekend is the perfect example of how Melbourne delivers the goods as the warm weather approaches. We’ve found a cheese and wine food truck fest, Beyoncé is celebrating her birthday, and you can enjoy all the ramen thanks to Tokyo Tina taking bookings for one day only!

Here’s 14 awesome things to do in Melbourne this weekend.

All Weekend

Cheese and Wine Food Truck Festival

We all know there’s no better way to celebrate the weekend (and the start of spring) than gorging on all the cheese and all the wine. The Preston Food Truck Park is letting you do just that, thanks to the Cheese and Wine Food Truck Festival that’s running all weekend. You can expect some of Melbourne’s cheesiest street food – think toasted sandwiches, fondue, and any other cheesy delights you set your mind to. This one’s been in the talks for a while, and we’re expecting big things. All attendees will be able to grab themselves a map giving them deets about all the cheese on offer, as well as recommended vino pairings! Froth city.

Magic Designer Sale

Oh how we all love our bargains, and you can nab some epic ones this weekend at the Magic Designer Sale. Featuring brands like Kuwaii, Kloke, Verner and a heap of others, this is the perfect place to revamp your wardrobe for spring! The Magic Designer sale runs twice a year and features some of the best designers in Melbourne. Head to Fitzroy and check it out.

Lucky Coq’s 10th Birthday

Lucky Coq is turning ten this weekend! To celebrate their double digits, you get to enjoy the most epic four-day party we’ve seen. From Thursday to Sunday, each night will feature multiple DJ sets from some of the best. And thanks to Colonial Brewing Co., $5 pots and $7.50 schooners will keep the bevvies coming all night. Why not grab yourself some of Lucky Coq’s famous pizza while you’re at it?

Madman Anime Festival

Held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, amine culture is being brought straight to Melbourne with exciting international guests, cosplay, and a bunch of anime events! You can grab a one-day pass, or even an impressive VIP package to make all your Japanese animation dreams come true at the Anime Festival. Find your ultimate costume and get ready for a weekend of epic capacity.

Thursday 1st

Best Great Western’s Wine Dinner

This Thursday night, Meat Fish Wine is hosting the ultimate dinner of four delicious courses, each paired with multiple Best Great Western wines. You’ll be able to sip on vintages from 1994, all the way to current release wines. On arrival, guests will feast on indulgent canapés of smoked eel, followed by an epic dinner. Think sea bream ceviche, beef short ribs and artisanal cheeses to finish off what is sure to be the best Thursday night you’ve had in a while. If you feel like treating yourself, this is definitely the place to do it at!

Friday 2nd

Friday Nights at the NGV

If you’re yet to check out the Degas exhibit, why not do it after work on a Friday night? Friday Nights at the NGV are letting Melburnians see the art after-hours, all while enjoying live music and nibbles. Mick Harvey (guitarist from Nick Cave and Bad Seeds) is performing this Friday night! The exhibit is only on for another three weeks, so get cultural and check it out. You can grab tickets online or at the door.

RMIT design market

If you like innovative design as much as we do, the RMIT Design Market will be showcasing some of the brightest and best of the design industry. The market lets entrepreneurial students and recent alumni test their products in a commercial marketplace, and you get to grab yourself some unique finds – so it’s a win-win! Head to Melbourne Central to check it out.

Melbourne Spring Fashion Week

Wrapping up this weekend, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week is the ultimate place to channel your fashionista. If you didn’t have an opportunity to make it to the shows or events earlier in the week – this is your last chance! There’s a bunch of stuff running right until the very last day of MSFW, so don’t miss out.

Saturday 3rd

Market On High ‘Blokes Edition’

Northcote’s Market On High is the perfect place to grab your monthly bargains. And this week, they’re featuring a ‘Blokes Edition.’ The boys will get to enjoy complimentary beard trims and a Brooklyn Brewery beer tasting. Ladies, you won’t miss out either. There’ll be plenty of market stalls for both sexes – and you can grab an espresso martini to sip on while you shop. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, head to Northcote Social Club for an epic burger feed.

Beyoncé’s Birthday Party

All bow down to Queen B. To celebrate Bey’s birthday, Supersmall in Prahran is throwing her a next level birthday bash. 100% Beyoncé tunes will be playing from 9pm-11pm, and will feature free entry, cake and a photobooth. There will even be life-size cutouts and facemasks of Queen B herself! It’s time to get in formation.

Sunday 4th

If you want dad to celebrate his day in style, treat him at the Father’s Day Winemakers’ lunch at Cumulus Inc. The afternoon will feature a large family style meal, served with some of the best vintage vinos you can get. The menu includes tuna tartare, a charcuterie selection, and some of the best seasonal produce in Victoria! Doors open at noon for the wine tasting, and lunch starts at 12.30pm. Tickets are $65 per person, with alcohol included.

Roald Dahl Day

The Melbourne Writers Festival has begun in Melbourne, and they’re celebrating the 100th anniversary of everyone’s most beloved children’s author – Roald Dahl! Whether it was ‘Matilda’, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ or ‘The Witches’ that did it for you, Dahl’s books give us a major throwback down nostalgia lane. There’ll be a Roald Dahl Exhibit on throughout the festival, and even some trivia about the man himself! This one will make for an epic family fun day.

Dandee Doughnut Eating Competition

What better way to spend your Sunday than devouring doughnuts? And we think dad would be pretty happy with this arrangement too. The Dandee Market is hosting the ultimate doughnut eating competition – where contestants will devour as many doughsies as they can in two minutes. Entry is free, and the winner will grab $200 worth of vouchers. More deets here.

Tokyo Tina fans knows there’s nothing better on slurping on their famous ramen. They also know there’s nothing worse than having to wait over an hour just to be seated. But stress not! This Father’s Day, Tokyo Tina are letting you make bookings to secure your Japanese tapas experience. Feast on all the ramen, bao and poke you desire, without getting hangry while waiting for a table!
