Every now and then an exhibition comes along that really speaks to me, and this one might just take the cake.
The Esky—while actually a brand name and not the name of the product—is an important icon in Australia’s history. Where would we be when a hard-earned thirst comes on and there wasn’t an Esky in sight? Nowhere, that’s where.
Well, this Friday April 13 at RVCA Gallery they’ll be holding 'Eskybition', where they have collaborated with some of Melbourne’s finest illustrative artists to produce a series of hand-painted Eskys, or Chilly Bins if you’re reading from NZ.
This extremely Melbourne event is being supported by that classic drop Melbourne Bitter and will feature hand-painted Eskys from Salvador Gnarly, Callum Preston, Soggy Savoy, Celeste Potter Art, Clare Clarity, Justine McAllister, Lachlan Philp, Shane Wilcox, and Steve Cohen.
All of the Eskys on show have been upcycled—sourced from Gumtree, eBay, as well as vintage and charity store, and given an aesthetic rebirth.
When: Friday 13 April, 6pm - 9pm
Where: RVCA Gallery, 191 Wellington Street, Collingwood
