What's On

There’s A Huge Whisky Festival Going Down This Weekend

By James Shackell - 16 Aug 2018

As moustachioed man-god Ron Swanson would say, “Prepare to experience true freedom and bliss.” Melbourne’s getting a two-day whisky festival, and it’s all going down this weekend at Welcome To Thornbury.

Let’s clarify, there’s gonna be both whisky and whiskey on show. The one with the ‘e’ is the Irish and American stuff, the one without the ‘e’ is Scotland, Japan and rest of the world (and a fk-tonne better—don’t @ us).

So what can you expect at a whisky shindig? Probably a lot of nosing and noses, moustaches in general and words like ‘peatiness’.

Also a mammoth whisky marketplace (that’s a large marketplace, mammoths aren’t involved in the distillation). There’ll be tastings and signature cocktails up at the main bar, plus ticketed masterclass sessions: Cheese & Whisky and Know Your Whisky. Those two are selling fast, so don’t dilly dally.

As usual, WTT will be hosting a variety of Melbourne’s best food trucks, and we’ve been told they’re prepping special whisky-themed snacks. The guys from Melbourne Record Club will be spinning the tunes as well.
