From Chinese New Year celebrations to epic White Night festivities, it’s a weekend of arts, culture, and partying ahead, Listers! Once you’ve got all that out of your system, slurp down some ice cream, sip away a Sunday session, and maybe catch a film or two.

Thursday 19th

Gelato lovers eat your heart out! Yesterday kicked of the 12-day Yarra Valley Ice Cream Festival! Until the 1st of March, pop down to feast on the fun at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery in Yarra Glen. On each of the twelve days, two new ice cream flavours will be introduced, from traditional to exotic! There will be prizes and plenty of family fun on offer. But hey, we don’t need to sell it to you. We’re talking about ICE CREAM for popsicles’ sake.

If you’re looking for things to do in Melbourne for Chinese New Year, foodie fans—head to Ruyi! Serving up delicious modern Chinese cuisine, Ruyi is celebrating the Chinese New Year in Melbourne with a scrumptious celebratory degustation. We’re salivating for the pork and crab Shao Long Bao, and we’re planning on getting us some sweet sago pudding with coconut sauce. Matched wines? Of course! It’s a celebration, right?

The Melbourne Star Observation Wheel is getting on board with Melbourne’s Chinese New Year festivities, lighting up in brilliant red and gold from tonight! The rest of Docklands is ready to party, too. Check out the amazing 100 metre-long illuminated dragon! Art lovers, head to Trink Tank tonight to check out the opening of Matthew Bax’s Alone. Held at Trink Tank, in the entrance to Bar Americano in Melbourne, Bax’s video piece Alone will play in the small space, curated by Ella Sowinska. Guests can enjoy a lobster roll from Super Normal and a glass of Lanson Champagne while they’re getting their art on. Cos what’s more arty than Champagne and lobster rolls?

Friday 20th

Clock off for the week and spend your summer sessions watching the sunset at Mr Lawrence in Port Melbourne. Grab a bevvie and chill out by the beach with the stunning upstairs bar at this trendy spot. Friday nights during February will be all about enjoying sunset themed cocktails and scrumptious bar food while enjoying the fantastic view. Head down from 5pm to see what you’re missing!

Hosted by curateEAT, Curry Smackdown is the hottest event happening this Friday at the Brunswick Bowling Club. Three awesome chefs will compete to be voted chief curry chef. Matt Wilkinson (Pope Joan), Darren Purchese (Burch & Purchese) and Ben Greeno (Momofuku Seiōbo) are the stars of the show, spicing things up for your tastebuds!

The Melbourne Remade Boutique Market is hitting Collins234 Boutique Place today, with over 40 Melbourne designed and made stalls. With an emphasis on sustainability, the products being showcased will be designed using upcycled, recycled, or remade materials. Shimmy along to the live jazz band, or snack on something tasty from one of the many food vendors. The perfect warm up to the White Night festivities!

To infinity, and beyond! If you’re in the mood for some popcorn, great memories, and feel-good moments, then you’ll be darn excited to hear about the Pixar Film Festival! As part of the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival Cultural Program’s Project Series, ACMI is screening a range of documentaries in the Fashion on Film exhibition. Running from today until the 8th of March, fashion lovers will learn a lot from the screenings, as well as enjoy a guided tour today. Sartorial Saturday will traverse the Neapolitan influences on the fashion world of Melbourne.

The Great Australian Beer Festival is back at Geelong Racecourse for an extravaganza of cider, restaurants and food trucks. Oh yeah, and beer! Sample from over 200 handcrafted brews, not to mention culinary delights from the surrounding areas. With three stages featuring live entertainment, music and comedy, you’ll have your hands full of things to do. Our pick—the keg rolling competition along the racetrack!

Werribee Park Mansion is hosting the second biggest polo event of the year today! The 2015 Jeep Ladies Day Polo is running today, and don’t worry, lads are welcome too! Join the fun with music, fashion, entertainment, Champagne and tasty treats! Of course there’ll be the odd polo match too… Supporting the Breast Cancer Network of Australia, the Ladies Day Polo is your weekend glammed-up getaway!

White Night Melbourne is here, Listers! Spreading a massive distance from the NGV to the Melbourne Museum, head along with the masses into one night of cultural, artistic and entertainment overload (only in the best possible way)! From a free outdoor cinema in Corrs Lane showing martial arts movies, to a Hawker Market in Cohen Place (with restaurants open till 3am!) for hungry wanderers. A piano has been installed in Melbourne Central, an initiative by local artist and musician Steph Hughes, and QV Square plays host to an electronic live music scene with The Potbelleez and Zoe Badwi playing live, for free! 

Flinders Lane will exhibit a range of fantastic art installations from an initiative by the City Library, Biblioasis, to work by local emerging artist, Leela Schauble. Yeah, we know we haven’t even touched on the epic list of things to do in Melbourne this White Night, but it’s safe to say there’s plenty to see! Melbourne Central is about to get pimped! That’s right, famous New York Street Artist, Kelsey Montague, is going to paint a mural at Melbourne Central, and you can watch her do it! Her murals feature a pair of wings with the title #WhatLiftsYou, an interactive piece encouraging social engagement and posing with the murals. Her first mural in New York has been featured on the Instagram accounts of Taylor Swift, Vanessa Hudgens and Refinery 29. Check out the action on Level 2, right next to Plantation. Don’t forget to hashtag!

Live on the Lawn sees country music legends, Lee Kernaghan and Kasey Chambers, hit the lawns of Werribee Park Mansion today.
