Christmas is just round the corner (only 408 hours to be exact *insert freak out here*) and it’s time to get organised! No matter how Christmas-y you want to get, we’ve got your weekend sorted. 

Think night markets, last minute gift ideas, dinners to take your mind off Christmas, and even personalised wrapping paper to get you right into that holiday spirit. There are even mannequin challenges and an epic Sunday spit roast, so what are you waiting for? Here are 10 festive things to tick off your list this weekend in Sydney. 

Thursday 8th December

Laneway At The Intercontinental

Heads up guys, an epic foodie collab is happening. The Intercontinental is transforming into a pop-up laneway with not one, but two dining events. The first is a five-course degustation dinner by the award-winning team from 117, complete with 270-degree views of the harbour. The second is a one-night only kind of deal, with a four-course degustation style dinner that’s glam AF.

Fête Des Lumières At Bistro Gavroche 

The Old Rum Store, one of Kensington Street’s oldest warehouses, is getting #lit this Thursday. Bistro Gavroche is celebrating the French festival of lights (and you’re invited) with a three course dinner of thanks and deliciousness. Grandpa Henri’s recipes will be headlining the menu with traditional baked pork terrine, onion soup and those tasty pike fish quenelles with crayfish sauce. Or perhaps shredded duck confit or tarte Tatin tickle your fancy. Whatever your flavor they all go down a treat with a complimentary Kir cocktail.

Friday 9th December

Finders Keepers Markets

The Finders Keepers Markets are back (for those of you that don’t know, they’re only the best design markets in the entire world, period). Expect over 200 stalls with dedicated food and beverage stalls, live music, bars and food trucks!

Aussie Night Markets

Hit up the Aussie Night Markets for a massive festival celebrating the greatest love in our lives— food! With over 40 food stalls boasting different flavours from the around the world, we’re thinking Christmas has definitely come early with this one.

When: Every Friday, 4pm – 10pm

Fratelli Famous Christmas

Christmas dreams are about to come true thanks to the Fratelli Famous team and their Christmas appeal. The DIY pizza masters will be donating portions of their uber large Christmas pizza to ShelterBox, the legends who provide temporary shelter and lifesaving supplies to displaced families affected by international disasters. What’s even better is that this pizza is looking seriously tasty, with a mysterious black base drizzled with cranberry BBQ sauce, turkey, red onions, green capsicum and of course, the cheesiest of cheese. Mannequin Challenge At The Royal Oak And The Gregory Hills Hotel 

This viral sensation is coming to a pub near you! The Mannequin Challenge, i.e. how still can you and all your friends be while drunk, has taken over the internet. The title for who can produce the best mannequin challenge is reaching epic proportions with an east vs west battle between the Royal Oak in Double Bay and the Gregory Hills Hotel in Campbelltown. With DJs kicking off long into the night, practice your best blue steel and join in the hype.

Saturday 10th December

Sydney Soiree

Sydney is having one helluva soiree so don’t be the sorry sob who misses out. If there’s one night that will finish the year the right way, it’s this one. Expect three courses, 3 houses and a massive after party with over 200 people!

Santafy Wrapping Paper Station 

This year, Central Park is channeling Mariah Carey and all they want for Christmas is literally— YOU!  Run, don’t walk, to a santafy wrapping station at Central Park to create your own santa-selfie wrapping paper (we’re dying of excitement too, don’t worry). Basically, you take a selfie and your face is printed onto wrapping paper with a Santa hat, moustache and beard. Give the best present this Christmas: you in a santa hat, obvs.

Sunday 11th December 

Free Kimbra Concert

Grammy award-winning performer Kimbra is hitting up the stage in Darling Harbour and guess what? You won’t have to pay a dime to see her do her thing. Yeah, we’re dying too. Plus, while this babe is singing, there will be a smorgasbord of food trucks to grab a snack from. Fresh food and fresh tunes? Sounds exactly like our kinda thing.

Spit Roast Sundays At The Chippo Hotel 

There’s not much better than getting some pork on your fork on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Head to the Chippo Hotel for Spit Roast Sundays, where you can cozy up with a beer or 5, delish salad and a whole heap of pork roast. Get in early though guys because this little piggy is going to market and is pretty damn popular. Sundays haven’t looked this tasty in a while.  

What: Spit Roast Sundays at the Chippo Hotel
