things to do this week Sydney

The public holidays are over and the mere thought of a five-day working week is starting to sink in.  But don’t let that get you down, because as usual, Sydney has our back. The Hunter Valley is showcasing some of the fiiinnest produce this region has to offer at their annual food and wine festival. Or, if you need a pick-me-up, Sydney Comedy Festival is hosting Best of the Fest, making you forget you’ve had to wake up at 6 am every day this week.

Here are our top five things to do this week in Sydney.

Monday 1 May

Movie Monday At The Soda Factory

Forget mum’s spaghetti tonight, Eminem has this one covered. The Soda Factory is bringing our early 2000’s nostalgia back by showing 8 Mile at their beloved venue. Relive Jimmy Smith Jr.’s (AKA Eminem) struggle as a rapper trying to make it in his hometown of Detroit. Co-starring leading lady Brittany Murphy, you’ll fall in love with this classic all over again and lose yourself (we couldn’t resist the pun) to B-Rabbit’s final freestyle rap scene.

Where: The Soda Factory
When: Monday 1 May at 5 pm
Cost: Free Entry

Tuesday 2 May

Mystery Wine Tour

Ever needed a reason to justify your 2 (OK 6) glasses of wine? Scroll no further. The Hunter Valley is offering up a Mystery Wine Tour. You’ll be led by a wine professional, who will provide a tasting list of six premium wines and you’ll have to work out what they are. Wine plus a mystery? Move over Sherlock Holmes, there’s a new detective on the block! A charcuterie board is included (amen) and a Wine Experience booklet. Who’s the master now?

Where: Tulloch Wines, 638 De Beyers Rd, Pokolbin NSW 2320
When: Monday 1 May – Friday 30 June
Cost: $35 pp

Wednesday 3 May

Dewar’s Scotch Egg Club

There’s a lot more to Scotland than kilts, bagpipes, and Gerard Butler. Dewar’s Scotch Egg Club is renowned for its blended whisky paired with a scotch egg. Master classes will be held from Wednesdays to Fridays for those who want to learn about this peculiar, but delicious combination. You’ll be taught about the unique flavours of the whiskey, and you'll no doubt be lead on an eggcellent adventure. Book tickets here.

Where: Dewar’s Scotch Egg Club Laneway, 152-156 Clarence St, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia
When: Wednesday 3 May 4 pm- 4:45 pm
Cost: $32.34

Best Of The Fest At The Factory Theatre

The Best of the Fest is a round-up of Sydney Comedy Festivals local and international comedians, packed into a one-hour show. Showcasing some of the finest comedy acts and talents, you’ll be lol-ing, rofl-ing, ha-ha-ing, but in real life—not in comment section of the 100 memes you’ve been tagged in.

Where: The Factory Theatre
When: Wednesday 3 May, 7 pm
Cost: $15-$20

The Midnight Bovine at The Midnight Special

We love a good collab. Whether it’s Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake (bring back the double denim) or avo and toast.  But the Newtown’s Bovine & Swine Barbecue Co. and the Midnight Special are pairing up to create The Midnight Bovine (otherwise known as, best duo ever). This pop-up kitchen is paying homage to Tex-Mex cuisine. Think giant tacos (not for the faint-hearted), with fillings including beef short rib, chopped pork or a vegan op, with chipotle beans. Booze is also a given—expect jalapeno tequila and smoked brisket washed whiskey on the drinks list.

Where: The Midnight Special
When: Wednesday 3 May, 5:30 pm
