We’d be lying if we said we didn’t daydream about buying new indoor plants every other day.
This newly-found obsession for a life filled with greenery, and pretty things that we can make with our hands, has in many ways been touched and inspired by local businesses just like the two you’ll get to know at a one-night only industry event, Between Two Fiddles (um, cutest name, ever?!).
Lauren Lance of The Borrowed Nursery is one of those salt-of-the-earth type gals who just make you wanna jot down your dreams and chase them, bit by bit. Unsure what path to take on graduating from interior design at uni, she saw a gap in the market to create a greenery loaning and events styling biz, and dove in the deep end with her versatile potting shed cum bespoke events warehouse at Mermaid Beach.
Same can be said for Ness Scharkie, founder of NESST. Starting out crafting headbands and flower crowns as a hobby in 2011, she’s now operating a fulltime business making these whimsical fashion pieces for wholesale and retail, as well as bouquets and floristry styling on and around the Coast.
These two inspiring local women are just everyday Gold Coasters who’ve worked their guts out to create businesses that bring them rich and fulfilling lives. But it’s not all roses. At Between Two Fiddles, they’ll talk about issues encountered when growing their businesses as solopreneurs, the good, the bad, and the ugly; the significance of nurturing support systems; networking; determination and work ethic; and chasing that elusive work-life balance.
Building a creative career is a dream for many of us, which is why you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to sit down and have a casual chat, listen to their stories, laugh, ask questions, and generally get filled with all the warm and fuzzies. Sounds like a really good use of a Friday night, don’t you think?
This uplifting evening is hosted and coordinated by none other than industry networking trailblazers Monique Pons and Andy Clark of Warehouse No. 5. Their third industry installment in the monthly series—one that’s already brought together the legends from Balter and Blackboard, and the innovative 40/40 Creative and Uber combo—will take place this Friday, May 26 at their Burleigh Heads home base.
And just to add more incentive to book your seat, you’ll also get a tasty dinner of tacos by Zicatela plus a vegan-friendly soft serve from CocoWhip’s mobile van, Whips&Co—all for just $55 per head. Top value, if you ask us.
So, what are you waiting for? Jump online now for an evening of all the good feels. And lots of chatter about plants and flowers.
