Is 2018 the quickest year ever, or what? If you haven’t been tagged in a photo counting down the weekends until Christmas by THAT friend, it’s coming. But we’re not that guy and for the time being, we’ll just focus on celebrating how epic July is going to be.

Music, food and cat festivals are all happening this month, plus a bunch of other cool stuff—you little ripper! So, here it is, the best things to do on the Gold Coast this July.

Taste Tweed Winter Food Fest

Just a short road trip singing at the top of your lungs down south is the glorious Kingscliff and Tweed Coast. This area is known for their fresh af seafood and homegrown hinterland produce—the best of both worlds within neighbouring distance, win! Showcasing their epic local businesses, activities and fishing history, the Tweed Taste Winter Food Fest runs for the whole of July and we can’t bloody wait. Events include Mount Warning Tours five course degustation cruise on the 5th, Kingscliff’s Fashion and Food Show on the 9th and Blanc de Beach on the 28th—we’re intrigued!

Funky Bunch Trivia At The Island Rooftop

Funky Bunch Tuesday Trivia at The Island Bistro and Bar comes with a side dish of $25 all you can eat wood-fired four seasons pizzas. Oh, and did we mention these guys include audio-visual effects to take their trivia up a notch? First prize is $100, runner up wins $50 and second last scores a bottle of wine, but really everyone’s a winner thanks to this fab night out.

Short+Sweet At HOTA

Short+Sweet is back and better than ever! Now in its tenth year, the festival showcases a bunch of compelling ten-minute performances that will have you on the edge of your seat. HOTA, Home of the Arts will be home (pun intended) to the festival’s theatre and cabaret performances this month. Make a night of it with a double dose of entertainment (both theatre AND cabaret shows) on Saturday nights.

Deluxe Deluxe At HOTA, Home Of The Arts

A steamy, glitter-loaded cabaret show is coming to the Gold Coast this July and it’s not. to. be. missed. HOTA, Home of the Arts will be taken over by Deluxe Deluxe’s cabaret-slash-circus show from July 4 to 29. From the creators of BLANC de BLANC and Madonna’s recent Rebel Heart tour, the high-energy show is totally unmissable. Our advice? Round up your squad and nab a table for four, complete with a bottle of bubbles.

Cadbury Chocolate Van

Um sorry, did someone say free chocolate? Yea, we did! This is not a dream people—this month a Cadbury van filled to the brim with sweet treats will be rolling into the GC. As part of their Share The Taste Tour there will be choccie giveaways—obvs—as well as music, games and entertainment. We’ll see you there.

$5 Sliders At Longboards

We like big burgers and we cannot lie. But we also love their cutesy teeny tiny slider versions that make us go ‘awww…’ and then nom nom. For a limited time, the cowabunga dudes at Longboards Laidback Eatery and Bar are putting on five dollar sliders and one dollar wings every Wednesday until July 25. Get the Beach Cheeseburger, Hiesenburger, Vegetarian G-Banger or American Swine all in baby versions! Then make a baby of your own—guys, a food baby, c’mon! Chuck a coupla crispy wings on the side and you’re in for a gnarly chomp sesh.

Twilight Night At Cornerstone

If there’s cheese, there’s us. And Cornerstone’s Twilight Night in Tugun is the best excuse we’ve come across to eat it by the wheel. Kick back with a cold one, a cutie and your picnic rug, all with catchy live music crooning in the background. Best of all, share boards and mezze plates are on the ready so your sunset session comes fully catered. A totally convenient thing to do on the Gold Coast this July. Yaaas!

First Fridays At Hotel Miami

Talented AF artists, musicians and DJs strutting their stuff at the southern end's favourite coworking space, Hotel Miami? Yas, please! This month the good folk at Hotel Miami are showcasing Mr B Interior Prints and his new collection of photos from the stunning South Island of New Zealand, with a live DJ set by The Hawaiinyls. All that shopping and dancing is sure to work up an appetite, so grab a feed from Latin American food truck Little Wahaca—drool—and throw back a cold one from the ever so suave crew at Young Henry’s for a fiver.

Squid Meat Disco

Sweet, sweet tunes and a disco in an unknown warehouse location—yea, we’re intrigued. Squid Meat Disco, everyone’s fave wet and wild party is back, serving up beats from the likes of Greaves, Toby Walrus and Acid Joe & HuGGy Per. Even better, this gig is BYO. Get ready to dance the night away.

VIVA Surfers Paradise

Throw on your blue suede shoes y’all and get yourself to Surfers Paradise to pay homage to the world’s greatest music legends. Hold on your hats ladies and gents because this show packs a serious punch. Following sell-out shows around the country, it’s finally our turn to experience this adults-only circus cabaret. Taking place under the Spiegel Big Top you’ll see naughty characters, world-class dancers, acrobats and comedians that will literally take your breath away. For a mix of hair-raising circus acts combined with truly saucy cabaret, Infamous is absolutely one for the diary.

Gold Coast Pet & Animal Expo

Animal lovers rejoice we have the perfect event for you. Now in it’s 16th year, the expo is literally jam-packed with fun things for you and your furry and feathered friends. There are over 70 exhibitions on display, live music, giveaways and animal demonstrations. A fab day out for the whole family.

Roots, Boots And Blues 

Ahh, bliss. While the rest of the world’s winters involve thick jackets and thermals, ours are spent basking in sunlight with a light cardi and a cute beanie. We’re a bit lucky like that. Enter the Roots, Boots and Blues Festival and it’s Broadwater Blues Battle—there’s no time for winter blues with groovy events like this. Held over one epic day, the event features artists such as Leica Louise, Sunsoakers and Oz Latin Brothers—bringing together International and local acts to bless our ears! Gee up for food stalls, dance acts and free show bags for the littlies all taking over the sprawling Broadwater Parklands.

Intro To Ukulele At Craft Parlour

A fun and totes cool new hobby to keep you company through winter? Uke can count on Craft Parlour to cover you for that one. Island vibes are high, we don’t care what you say, Mr weatherman. Because the uber sweet and talented Erin Harrington (the creator of ELMUKULELE—cute name, we love it) is hosting her intro to ukulele workshop. Pluck away those winter blues and if you don’t have your own uke, hire one of Erin’s for a fiver!

Christmas In July — The Collective

Maybe it’s because we’ve all grown up watching American movies but sometimes it feels like Christmas really is made for winter. And by that we mean we want to eat all the yummy Christmas fare without having to fit into a bikini the next day. Thankfully the folk at The Collective Palm Beach have heard our prayers and are throwing a Christmas in July event that is guaranteed to be a goodie. The four-course dinner—which comes with your choice of mulled wine or cider on arrival—will see you indulge in melt-in-your mouth gnocchi, chicken liver parfait and spiced pumpkin bread pudding. There’s also a live band and DJ playing until late so you can work off those Christmas calories in no time.

Groundwater Country Music Festival

Previously known as the Broadbeach Country Music Festival, Groundwater is set to be just as yehaaawing good. Grab your favourite cowboy hat and boot-scootin’ baby because it’s time for Broadbeach’s annual Country Music Festival to take over the streets. Head down for the three-day free event, don your favourite novelty buckle and do like the true country folk would—sneak a flask in your boot, obviously.

Masterclasses With Georgia Barnes

We don’t know about you guys but sometimes we need a little extra inspo when we step into the kitchen. Enter Mastechef alumni and nutritionist Georgia Barnes and her uber helpful masterclasses. Held every month until the end of the year, you’ll learn new tips and tricks in the kitchen, be inspired with new recipes, get to taste Georgia’s delish food and AND there’s a goodie bag. Win! This month’s masterclass, which with only 10 people is super intimate, is all about becoming a master at pasta. Mama Mia!

Carrara Cat Carnival

Everybody stay calm—the kitties are coming back and if we’re purrfectly honest, so are our urges to practice patting in preparation. For the second year running, the adorable kitty celebrations of Carrara Cat Carnival are coming to town, including their Insta-famous members such as Mooka the Scottish Fold himself! If you’re in the market for a new furry friend, then put this one in your diary right meow!

Festival Of Mussels

Aww shucks, guys, a mammoth mussel-eating festival is coming to the Gold Coast faster than we can say "Kilpatrick!" Taking over the fabulous Miami Marketta for one arvo only, the Festival of Mussels is dedicated to the new season of freshly sourced mussels, featuring your appetite and the finest blue-lipped molluscs this country can offer. Tickets gain you access to a never-ending supply of mussels. We're serious, bring an empty stomach. Oysters, pizzas and some gorgeous desserts will also be available throughout the day for those that have come along (read: dragged) that happen not to eat seafood, so that everyone can enjoy the atmos.
