Even though the old duck turned 90 back in April (seriously, who plans these things?), they want to give us an RDO on Monday. Well, we’ll take it!

Cocobella Presents | Saturday, October 1
If there was one Gold Coast Instagrammer whose shoes we’d love to step into just once, it’d be Elsa’s Wholesome Life. This inspiring local lady is teaming up with everyone’s favourite coconut water for our very own instalment on Cocobella Presents’ circuit. Ellie Bullen will share her insights on living a conscious wholefoods lifestyle and even some secrets about how she became #instafamous. There will be goodie bags, giveaways, and smoothie bowl treats from the Cocobella breakfast bar for all attending the morning event. Tickets are free but seats are limited, so you’ll need to act fast to secure your posi.

Free the Hops Launch “Homegrown” | Saturday, October 1
Without question, Free the Hops Craft Beer Festival’s opening shindig is one you don’t want to miss this long weekend. Homegrown is the biggest event of the nine-day festival, with 1,000+ hops lovers expected to converge on a temporary outdoor beer garden in Southport. Chat with the faces behind the brews and purchase all manner of tasty drops from pop-up bars by Black Hops, Burleigh Brewing, Balter, Fortitude, Beard and Brau, and Stone & Wood. Adding to the festivities will be food trucks, live musos such as Donny Love and Yes Sir Noceur, and the epic comradery of collectively acknowledging our love for beer. Cheers!

Flavours of Metro Street Party | Saturday, October 1
It appears Southport is the place to be this Saturday arvo, with the crew at Australia Fair Metro joining in on the action just a few paces away from Free the Hops’ launch event. A handful of new F&B vendors lining Young Street, including SoPo Dining Room, The Burrito Bar, and Filipino offering Kubo’s Bar and Grill are throwing a wee street party to celebrate their arrival in the CBD. Drop by Flavours of Metro for some tasty bites from the new kids in town, listen to live tunes, then strut a few short blocks to get your #beerdrinkingon at Free the Hops’ opening party, Homegrown, running concurrently.

BBQ Block Party at One 50 Public House | Sunday, October 2
Nothing tops kicking into a Sunday sesh with knowledge you don’t have to work on Monday. This weekend is one of those rare occasions and Bundall fave, One 50 Public House is taking advantage throwing a lively BBQ Block Party. Follow your nose to the sweet aromas of slow-cooked meats prepared by a handful of BBQ masters, sip on craft beers in the sunshine, shimmy to live bands and DJs, or, for the die hard, enter Weiner Haus’ hot dog eating comp with a massive $1,000 worth of prizes up for grabs. Of course, the NRL grand final will be live on the big screen (inside with volume) from 6:30pm.

Oktoberfest at Bine Craft Beer Bar | Sunday, October 2
Teaming up with much-loved Stone & Wood and as part of Free the Hops fest, Bine is throwing their own European-style beer bash. There’ll be giveaways and the Stone & Wood crew on hand to banter about what it takes to be voted one of the country’s best breweries. At Bine’s Oktoberfest you can also expect a pig on the spit plus one-will-probably-do monster steins pouring for 15 bucks each.

NRL Grand Final “Live on the Lawn” at Garden Kitchen & Bar
If you’re yet to swill drinks in the sunshine at Garden Kitchen & Bar’s expansive lawn, this long weekend is as good a time as any. Not still crying into your beer that there are no QLD teams representing this year? Then pick your sides between Melbourne Storm and the Cronulla Sharks, and beeline for Jupiters. Live music on the deck kicks off at 2pm, with the lawn area opening from 5pm—get in early to nab yourself a bean bag—and footy action on the massive blow-up screen there after.
