Whether it’s your mother, your wife, your sister, your aunty, your daughter or even yourself, we all have some important women in our lives that deserve celebrating. And what better time to celebrate the boss babes in your life than this International Women’s Day. Celebrated today, it’s the perfect time to let the women in your life know what they mean to you. It’s also a good time to celebrate the women who are killing it in their fields, such as local designers, artists, and business owners.
If you’re looking for a way to check out some local talent this International Women’s Day, be sure to head to the Level Up Gallery at The Strand in Coolangatta for their Under The Milky Way exhibition.
Featuring the work of four dynamic and talented female artists, the exhibition showcases what it means to be a woman living in our Milky Way. Using their own unique and distinct styles of painting and illustration, each artist presents their own personality and sense of connection to the land, drawing inspiration from the landscape, native animals, iconic brands and architecture.
On display will be local artist Owlet (aka Cara Sanders) who is well known for her beautiful print work and depictions of Australian wildlife and scenery. Painter and sculptor Rebecca Cunningham’s stunning portrayals of native animals and indigenous culture will also be on show, as well as deeply engaging works from Natalie Popovski and Aimee Moy.
The exhibition will be open until the 31st of March, so even if you can’t get there this International Women’s Day, there’s still plenty of time to admire the work of these talented locals. Whether you’re an art lover or just know how to appreciate a good painting, this exhibit has so much to offer.
